Why do they exist? What benefit are they to society?
Do they actually do anything at all except fly around and sting people?

Only Flies and Mosquitos rank lower on the scale.

We used to put fireworks in to wasps nests, light em and then run like hell. Never did get caught.

Never been stung by a wasp - probably respect the solidness. Did get stung by a queen bee, that was a lacing.

I can honestly say with hand on heart that I haven't seen a wasp here in years maybe it's because it's a built up area with not much green spaces left for them to populate......Sorel on the other hand is a totally different story they are massive and take no shit......one of Vals nephews kicked a ball into a tree one time hitting a nest....don't think I've sprinted as fast as I did for cover since my schooldays......

I was parked in a layby last week and this wasp decides to buzz around and annoy me inside the car.
I had to get out and run around a few times as it deliberately followed me.
It then flew back into the car and I had to open all the damn windows, eventually it got bored of harrassing me and disappeared.
F*cking wasps, I hate them.

Wasps look kind of good, better than most of Englands insects anyway.
Their sting doesnt hurt anyway.

I bet they look good, especially if they're on you.

When I was about eight or nine, a wasp landed on a sugar bon-bon that I was sucking, It subsequently stung me and my tongue proceeded to swell to three times its normal size. I nearly choked to death. The nurse at the hospital reckons I was lucky I didn't swallow it.

when i was about nine, me and my mate were going through trees near where we lived, and i stepped on a nest (i was in shorts). We ran like f**k, to his houise, screaming our heads off. I got about 16 stings to the legs, and a few more to me arm.

Took a sting on my top lip once when I was 12/13. A wasp had crawled in my can of coke and wasn't too pleased when I took a sip. I was even less please as my lip swelled up to Pete Burns proportions.

I got a wasp in my pint yesterday. I came very close to gulping it as well. That would have been fun:laugh:

Happened to me today at lunchtime, luckily i fished it out with a fork...damn thing was walking around all dazed/pissed up then scratching its face
Was tempted to crush it with the glass but then thats not nice...only moths deserve outright murder.

When you think about it wasps are like a ferocious tiger whereas bees are like big gay bears....then again hornets are nasty too.

Moths do my head in. Hot night and you can't even open a window without being divebombed by moths coming in.
Hence why i keep a nice thick book next to my chair ready to start my baseball game.

Indeed, they are quite beneficial for us: they control a lot of insects pests
Wasps are not dangerous, they're aggresive, but they won't attack if they don't feel in danger or we just try to disturb them (quite 'human' behaviour... i think our behaviour with another species is even worse...). The problem is that most of us feel scared when they fly beside us, and we try to throw them away with our hands, and many times they try to sting us for that, because they felt in danger with our hands' movements.
In fact they're quite similar to us (humans) since they live in colonies, with a queen, and they're quite aggresive... we're similar species, we're both predators.

They used to come into my basement/cellar during the winter when I was younger but we killed them nicely.

Wasps, to me, aren't that big a problem. Strangely enough I guess, I've never been stung by one.
The only thing I hate about them, is like all flying insects, when thy get inside your house or on the bus and you open the windows to shoo them out, they never fly out. They'll always fly up and down bumping against the window pane trying to get out. What the feck do they want? The feckin windows open: feck off...

They're attracted to CO2 are they not? So don't breathe and you'll be fine...
