My brother just moved to Ireland and has invited myself and my partner with kids to Ireland for the weekend.

However! I have since had a chat with my friend in Lancaster who has just come back from Germany and highly recommends a trip there, as I always wanted to go but have not been as of yet.

Question is, which one has a better exchange rate, better atmosphere, better all round worthwile trip overall? I.E. Which one serves the cheaper beer? Cheaper B&B's etc?

I know both are using the Euro now but I heard Ireland was an expensive holiday?!

Ive not been to Germany but have visited Ireland. I went to Dublin which I have to admit wasn't cheap. Well worth a visit though.

I'd rather visit Germany if I had that choice.

Everything is ridicoulously over priced here.

If I where you, I'd go with Germany. Dublin is not like on the post cards, Venturing too far out of the city center can be very dangerous. They're not all happy drunks there, the majority are scum.

Well seeing as your brother has invited you, I think you should really go to Ireland.

So we're split! Aye as James_F said, I have been invited. Plus, the travel is free as we can hitch a lift in my parents Motor Home.

Just wanted to compare as my friend who went to Germany said the Kebab's are to die for over there, you can buy a beer in Burger King (feed kids and keep me happy at same time) and it is relatively cheap, according to her.

Guinness is appealing though, as is the countryside as brother lives in south west of Ireland.

Cheers anyway.

I would say Ireland, but if you go to Germany, drive there and take a French shirt, spit on it piss on it and sh*t on it, and drop it off around Calais would ya?

 Oh you have had a bad experience in Calais too have you?
Went there back in 1988 and our coach got pelted with stones by a mob of Froggie youths! :rolleyes

You CAN buy a beer in places like burger king or mcdonalds but it will probably be out of a can or in a plastic cup.Drinking beer in the pubs in Germany is a fantastic voyage of discovery for someone who doesn,t know the country. Each area has its brews and most German beer ranges from fairly good to excellent.Crap beer is not something your average German would put up with.In my slightly biased opinion Bavarian beer is the best.Don,t drink it out of litre jugs though, that is just for the beer tents or the tourists, have a half litre and order a fresh one like the locals.
If in Bavaria in summer there is always the chance of a local beerfest being on.Much less commercial, and much cheaper than the Oktoberfest (or the Wies,n pronounced Veezen,as the locals call it).
There is no problem taking kids in a beertent or during the day into a pub or restaurant as long as they aren,t running riot.
The beerfests are not just beertents in any case, there are all sorts of refreshment stands, fairground rides, live music, firework displays and other attractions too, plenty for all ages.
A bottle of wine costs around half what it costs in Britain.
Anyway I reckon you would enjoy it over here.Either way have a good trip.

That will be because of the Turkish kebab houses :thumb

I have to admit I preferred the kebabs back home. The turkish ones are often not up to scratch and you can,t get a decent hot chilli sauce in a kebab house over here.
