Seriously, What's it like for a long weekend's break?
Seems like the wife wants to take me with her to see a friend.

Was in Belfast for a weekend in July. I enjoyed it, good nightlife and there's a fair amount to do. :)

Belfast is a great place. I've just returned from living in NI for all of this year. There's loads of stuff to do and see, I can recommend St Georges Market on a Saturday morning for some lovely gifts, and if you get out of town with a car there's lough neigh which makes loch ness look like a pond complete with waves (but it's kinda green) Strangrah is amazing with wonderful sea food restaurants... NI has some amazing places and sites for those willing to take the time looking
EDIT ...
They abuse you for walking around in a Rangers shirt. Avoid.
Try adapting to the culture you're walking amongst ... you wouldn't walk down the main street of Baghdad wearing a g-string and a smile would you ?

Thanks for your wonderful contribution to the thread, I trust it comes from a wealth of personal experience?
Belfast 10 years ago was a shadow of what it is now - the ceasefire and the mood of the city has changed immeasurably and whilst there are some parts of the city you want to avoid (like anywhere), it's certainly a lot better than many other vaunted UK hotspots.

as for belfast i dont rate it at all. (maybe its just cuz im from there !!) but all the decent bars are over in botanic and after closing time the area is swamped with people heading home, looking something to eat , taxis etc and the streets are just to crowded and that can lead to the odd punch up. not what most of us need after anight out.
the crown bar is agreat wee pub to go into and take in the tour of belfast visiting the murals on the falls and shankill etc to see the past weve thankfully left behind us.

You would find a good bit to do/see Tuborg at least! Much more on offer than Glasgow I'd say!!
As for the comment re Rangers shirts, I suspect it depends where you go so don't wear any gear from the gers or their Glasgow neighbours!

Some are painted over but some of the more famous ones are still in existance from both communities.
You can take a walking tour of the areas involved and get the historical meaning/insight of each mural. Enlightening stuff...

dont see why youd think youd get slatted for wanting to see a part of our history. thankfully most our still around and will remain as we all know thats what the tourist want to see and that generates money !!!
as i said b4, its part of our history which thankfully we have left behind us.

Quite enjoyed that open bus tour, even though it started raining at the end! I would post a couple of mural pictures from the tour, but I don't know if it violates the forum rules?

We went past a few Rangers bars. Was was originally called Ibrox but apparently Rangers complained, so they changed it to a picture of an eye followed by brox. :D

What's recommended and not recommended?
Even, if it's just outside Belfast.
No offence to the Northern Irish here in the forum, but at this moment I am not over-excited about going.

Lough neagh is the biggest fresh water lough in europe.
They are trying to connect all the cycle tracks around it so you could cycle around it all.
Oxford Island near Lurgan is a nature reserve at Lough Neagh and has plenty to look at.
They have the discovery centre and the staff are very helpfull and friendly.

Sightseeing I guess, we've already booked a tour of the East coast seeing The Giants Causeway, Distilery and several other things along the way.
As for the evening, it will just be one big piss up naturally.
What's the best thing to do on a Saturday morning? or even on a Sunday?

Go looking a Linfield shirt, for the match in the afternoon.
Odyssey is good on a Sunday night, try the Beach Club. Free in before ten, and 2 quid a drink all night.

I walked past it a few times, but didn't have the balls to go in and order a pint with a British accent.

On the Saturday come and watch Cliftonville in wonderful North Belfast.

You never really appreciate the place your from when you've lived there all your life, but having been away travelling for extended periods of times over the last 3-4 years you do learn to enjoy it all the more.
There is no doubt that Belfast would be a great weekend stop off. Plenty to do in and around Belfast to keep you occupied and the night life is decent if you pick the right bar/clubs to spend the night.
My advice. Get yourself to Belfast and pull up a seat in Lavery's bar near the city centre area of Belfast. Pick the right night and I'll pull you a discounted pint and help you plan the rest of your weekend!
