Why do people buy it ? Is it a disguise of bad breath ?

We have (as modern humans) been chewing gum for more than 5000 years (if longer), birch bark, mastic gum e.t.c.

Chewing gum is great for day dreaming and inducing altered states of consciousness.

Rhythmic chewing is just like rhythmic breathing; it aids altered mental states.

I've been chewing gum, regulary, for as long as I can remember, since quitting smoking a year ago, that has increased.

Its just a habit.

So true, chewing gum can be a handy way of helping you relax when stressed out, similar to what "having a ciggie" does, yet is a lot less harmful.

They were also the best chewies ever FACT

Used to hold their taste forever and were excellent for blowing bubbles :)

They still around? I've not seen them in donkeys years, but looking at the internet, appears they still are around.

Replaces the need to eat, drink, smoke with me. Also somehow seems to alleviate boredom. I don't know how it does, but it works.

I'm quite surprised at that. The only people I know who constantly chew gum are smokers.
