I'm unclear about exactly what happened or how it all got started, but i've known my friend for many years & i'm quite sure he wouldn't of started anything.
Anyway, this kid he had a pushing match with must of wieghed no more than 10 stone & was around 20 years old. My mate kinda bottled it a little even though i & everyone else knows he would of murdered him. The reason why he didn't have it out with him is because he said the guy could of pulled a knife or something similar on him & he stated that it's not worth it.
I told him f**k it, he should see it through, but that was the beer talking last night. This morning though, i think he could be right, even if his pride took a knock.
What say you..??

as they say, its the bigger man that walks away...
theres no point getting into a fight for no reason though, i mean if a guy was there slating me, my family or friends for no reason then ok, you might do something then, but i think he did the right thing tbh.

Yeah maybe you're right bcfc4life, but to back down in front of his friends is a real kicker. That must hurt more than the stabbing itself IMO..?!
I haven't spoke to him this morning, but i bet he's still reeling from it.?!

Should have apologized, grovelled and waited til he turned away.
Then smacked him with a bar stool!

In todays violent climate, it is better to avoid confrontation. Only if you are trapped in a corner, so to speak, should you retaliate. No good afterwards people saying, 'I wish he'd just walked away'
He did the right thing

Reflecting on it all i think you're right.
The problem is though, the kid was just a little sh1t mouthing off & he needed to be beaten down, but as my mate said..."1 thing leads to another"

Exactly.I see what TB means and he has a valid point. But there is also the argument that says if nobody stands up to little sh#ts they simply get worse.

That is a very valid point.
So what should 1 do.??

Let me try to explain something from an older point of view.
When I were im teens and right through to my early 50's if anybody bad mouthed me I would tw*t them. But then it was over.
Today if you stand up to some little squirt(and they are the ones that start the trouble) and slap him, well then the next time you leave the pub you will be greetd by a gang of yobs.
We have all seen what has happened to those who have spine(and god bless them) and what do the police do about it. Stand idly back in case they are breaching the rights of those who carry knives.
So to sum up. Bite your tongue and know that one day the little sh!ts will get a pasting from their own 'mates' and when you read up about it smile, but also have some sympathy for the bully boys family

True TB,but in the meantime the little sh#t may have terrorised many other people all because nobody gave him a pasting when he first started.

Violence breeds violence. I'm the type who, when I was younger, wouldn't have thought twice about spreading the wee clown over the pavement, but I'm a wee bit wiser now :hmmm maybe.
It's all well and good saying you should stand up to these people, but the fact is, that only leads to violence, and there's a good chance there'll be repercussions. Next time you're leaving the local, there could be a pack of them waiting for you. These guys are shitebags, and wouldn't say "boo" on their own.
Walk away and be the stronger man.
Edited to say Sorry TB, missed your post :coat
Basically saying the same as myself

Tough call, I don't know what I'd do. I have walked away from fights in the past but that was before I was lifting weights. It tends to get the hormones pumping.

TB is right about the Karma thing, my bro got rugby tackled by some mindless **** a few years back in School, I then saw that mindless **** getting absolutely dominated earlier this year so sometimes they get their come-uppance.

You can lift all the weights you want, but when payback is four guys with knives, you're in deep shit. Away and buy some t-shirts that fit you :bye

I asked my mate if he wanted to go for a pint y/day & he politely refused. I hope his incident doesn't take control of his life in anyway, like not wanting to go out for a beer & shit like that.

My mate got jumped on his way home from a night out 3 weeks ago at 5 am and now he takes a taxi home instead. He managed to beat them both up. I could only imagine the damage it would have done to him if he'd have lost the fight. These things affect you, although they shouldn't. Everybody wants a quiet life with no hassle.

Totally agree. Not that I'd have a problem taking on a bloke or a lad twice my size if it came to it, but I'd rise above it and walk away or ignore them.
So fair play to the guy for doing what he did.

Most of time. But rare occasions call for a decisive end to the matter. If someone goes too far they've gotta know it's not acceptable.

Yes, had that happen too. You walk away, and they come for more, you still walk away and they still badger, or even worse grab a bottle and whack it over your head...at this stage you have no option but to react.

I don't know. I think it's also dependent on how self-confident you are.
If you look like you're easy prey, you might look like an easy target for some jumped up little group of shits to pick on for a laugh.
There used to be an area of Padiham (near here) where it was considered a 'no-go' area because of a group called the CRA.
Basically a bunch of kids fresh out of school- early 20's, hanging around street corners and drinking etc.
They were notorious and usually picked on a wide variety of people in that area. Yet I walked past them every night on my own and they didn't say or do a thing.
Maybe it's self confidence? There must be a reason why certain people are picked on.

My mate wasn't picked on.. he was just involved in a pushing match. 1 on 1 he would have no trouble putting his lights out. What concerned him was the knife & gang aspect. Forward thinking was his downfall, maybe..?!?!

Not as clear cut as that.Whilst fully respecting and understanding the opinion of TB and Claret I think it depends on the situation. If you are going to see the guy regularly and backing down is going to mean taking a load of sh#t week in week out for example.
Kicking his head in to get him off your back against the possibility of him pulling a knife or his mates piling in.Not easy to call.
I'm all for a quiet life too,but all that scum like this understand is force. They jump on weak people as easy targets.

100% correct.
I remember waiting for my wife and son to come home from her mothers one day on the bus, so i kept looking out the window at bus stop where a gang of about 10 sixteen year old neds where hassling every passer by, the more i watched and waited the more wound up i got watching them so i decided the best thing to do was go over the road to the shop. I went out with a slow swagger and crossed the road to the shop as i got to the other side of the road i stopped dead and started just staring them down, it took about 10 seconds for everyone of there heads to drop and dissappear, made me feel hard as **** for about a week.
