View Full Version : Buses...quicker to walk?

I live approximately a mile from Wandsworth and not much further from Roehampton.
Why is it than it's quicker to walk than to catch a bus here in London? Takes me 15 minutes to walk to my missus' mother's. Takes 25 minutes by bus. Takes approximately ten minutes more by bus to Wandsworth than on foot.

Don't think I could drive in London city though, I have driven in many cities but London is madness!

Yeah it's awful. Even in a storm, don't take your car during 4.00-5.00pm, it will drive you nuts!

Yea, San Francisco is the home for them. Also got them in Canada.

I never use the bus. It's embarassing for a man to get the bus. I walk if need be, and yes it is faster and you avoid the annoying kids etc.

That's a stupid comment, I get the bus to and from the pub all the time.

When i was living back up in Sunderland i used the bus to work, cheaper than parking in the city Centre.

I use the buses and they're shocking. I walked quicker than the bus could've took me the other day and saved myself 50p too.

I badly miss my car but sometimes you have to sacrifice.

Bike?

I hear ya, brother. I used to bike everywhere when I lived in London. It was good exercise, it was free, I always got a seat and I was never crammed up into someone's armpit all the way. Plus a journey that took about 1hr 20mins by tube (factoring in walking to and from the stations, waiting, changing at Earls Court and the inevitable delays) took me about half an hour door to door by bike.

The traffic's not as bad as you think, either. I was only terrified once, and that's when I got in the wrong lane at Hyde Park Corner. So I just went a different way home (only a mentalist would have stuck out an arm and cut across) and... er... got to see more of London.

And if it rains? Well, there's no such thing as bad weather, only the wrong clothes. Do it! Dress like a twat and bike about! You'll even get to enjoy it.

Your bus fare is 50p?

Where do you live? 1985?

Ever since i've started driving, i very hardly use the buses. They are either 10-15 mins late, and always dirty. I'd rather either use my car if i can, but if i can't, i walk to my destination as it'll keep me fit.

Student fare in Sheffield. Have to pay full fare at home though which is 1.90 each way.

I quite like the bus. The only thing I hate about the bus is the dirty scum who use it (obviously not me).

I've been using the bus/tube/train all my life and I came to the conclusion long ago that people are just plain nasty. Half of them don't even deserve a public transport.

No mate that's just the south :salute:

I never have any problems on the buses.

I hate buses...not been on a bus in 10 years until I started seeing the missus in April. Alas I have no car at the moment and think I'd hate driving in Central London...hate the tube, but then when needs must...then I have to bite the bullet and get on the annoying things.

Is that because you just get that student bus by any chance? Half the people on buses I get aren't worth being transported.

No I get buses all over the place and they're usually ok (apart from the one that goes Sheffield-Rotherham-Doncaster). Horrible bus that one. All the Stagecoach ones are 50p.

i've been getting used to the Bus system round here, not bad. not so used to paying for them though.

it takes about the same time on my bike as it does the bus, so i do half and half, like.

West Mids has a good bus system - either £1 or £1.20 it costs.
