I purchased a ticket for one of my daughters for this match ( I couldn't make today's game due to personal reasons), and from what she told me via telephone it was a "topsy-turvey game", with, in her opinion, the Glens deserving the three points. My daughter, incidentally, is staying tonight with friends hence the 'phone conversation.
Against all the odds we once again secured another three points.
Reading tonights "Ireland's Saturday Night" , the reporter, Stuart McKinley starts his assessment by stating:
"It's been a happy Christmas in East Belfast. This time a maximum haul of six points from the same two games (Meaning, the opposition being Linfield and Portadown) has pushed Alan McDonald's side right into the title race at the halfway stage, setting things up for an exciting second half to the campaign"
Mr McKinley will never write more truer words.
By this account, Portadown seemed unlucky not to take an early lead, as they appeared to be the better team in the first half. But once again this Glens team showed true grit in the second, with goals from from Jason Hill, around the 70th minute, and a final minute strike from Gary Hamilton, to secure our victory.
I'll get a much better picture of just how good we were tomorrow, when my daughter returns home.
On New years day, we play Ballymena Utd at the Oval. My two daughters and i shall be present.
Here's hoping for another three points.
C'mon the Cock 'N' Hens......
