A friend of mine is willing to pay me £50 a week rent to use my spare room for her business. She'd only be using it three days a week.
Question is, does it mean a shift in any council taxation, etc? Or is it up to me to divulge it, etc?
Just curious as she can't work from home and wants to use a premises more centrally located in Lancashire.

The mind boggles at what her 'business' is!

If you own your property then if any part of it is being use to operate a business then you may have to pay business rate for council tax purposes. Any income you derive from said rental will again be taxable & HMRC will want to know about it. If you rent your property same applies unless your tenancy agreement forbids sub-letting.
Of course you could just rent the room & keep schtum! But if you get caught then they'll throw the book at you, especially if HMRC are involved.

It's not what you think  Cheaper to rent from me and she hasn't the room at her house for office equipment etc.

Thanks Escafeld. I thought there might be some form of taxation involved.

If she pays £50 a week in cash and you both keep your mouths shut, then there's no problem.
