View Full Version : V Glenavon 22/03
Glenavon are the visitors to the Oval this Saturday, and we need to be on our guard. With a brace of wins, they'll be coming with the anticipation of making that a hattrick. Terry Cochrane seems to have done a reasonable enough job, so far, and they are now starting to move away from the dreaded relegation zone.
On paper, we should of course, win this one. But i take nothing for granted nowadays, past experience has taught me that hard lesson.
I'm looking forward to this encounter, as too is my daughter, who accompanies me to all matches.
The young lass is predicting a 3-1 victory in our favour, but i think i'll just stay quiet on this one, as my predictions appear to go horribly wrong.
C'mon the green, red & black.:thumb

You need to have more faith in your team HD, the Glens should win this one comfortably.

i hate them lurgan gypos 3-0 cock n hens
Well i would obviously settle for any one of those results. In fact i'd be more than happy with a scrappy 1-0 victory over the Lurgan blues, but time will tell.
I'll be back on this thread on Saturday evening with my usual match report.
Incidentally, here's our last remaing fixtures : (Excluding Glenavon)
March 25th Limavady Utd (Home)
April 5th Crusaders (Away)
April 12th Linfield (Away)
April 19th Cliftonville (Home) **I think that's a Friday night**
April 26th Portadown (Home)
Quite a run-in. Ah well, if nothing else it'll give us something to natter about on the forums.

"Glentoran are still very much in this title race after this comfortable win."
So wrote reporter Chis Holt in his match report in tonights "Ireland's Saturday Night" (Paragraph 1, page 2)
And after todays shock result at Solitude, i must concede, that even a pessimist such as myself, am finding it hard to disagree.
I attended today's game along with my two daughters. As i was driving back from todays match, i noticed that one of the reporters, commenting while on the radio, described it as "An entertaining affair". Well, we didn't think it was. We thought that the Glens done enough to win it, but whilst we can point out several good footballing moves by the Glens, we would certainly not describe the football served up today, as "an entertaining affair".
Perhaps though, i am being a little unfair. The conditions were terrible. A howling wind, with an icey breath, hence making the conditions utterly baltic.
You'd swear that you were watching a match in the North pole, forgetting at times, that this was East Belfast, NI.
We actually missed Boyce's third goal, as this was obviously deep into injury time. (Three minutes added on, according to the announcement on the Glens tannoid) as we left on the 91st minute, with only, by our estimations, two minutes remaining.
Nixon converted his penalty well, after what i thought was a definate hand ball. Although referee McFadden, (I did not recognise him--but, according to todays Glentoran Gazette that's his name) seemed to hold some doubt as he actually had to consult his linesman, Scullion could have been celebrating a hattrick, but only scored once, a side footed effort from about twelve yards or so. He should have done much better with a couple of opportunities, especially in the first half, when put through by Hamilton (Who had a poor game by his high standards today) but on both ocassions, he shot tamely at the keeper.
Glenavon? Well, they created a few chaces themselves, and were certainly very unlucky with a splendid free-kick, only to see it crash of the cross bar, before being kicked away to safety.
Overall, we deserved our victory today. I said that a 1-0 victory would do today, i'll certainly settle for this.
Limavady Utd on Easter Tuesday. Bring them on.

Yes, Red1 you old fox, you cunningly use my own words against me....
But believe you me, you lot are very much alive and kicking in this Championship battle, as while it pains me to say it, so too is our "beloved" Linfield brethern.(Being ultra sardonic here BTW)
Hmm.. One thing is for sure. A very few --shall we say "interesting" weeks lie ahead for us all. That includes yourself, the reds fans who post on these forums, Mr Windsor Park, and myself.
It's dog eat dog out there, and winner take all.

I was actually asked to come along and watch the match, but unfortunately with the new early kick off time, that is not going to be possible. We work up until 12.30 on a Saturday morning. (And that's only if we are lucky-sometimes it is near 1.00 before we are eventually walking out the door)
I work alongside three season ticket holders. Two Cliftonville and one Linfield.
I have therefore no doubts whatsoever that i shall have to work on till we finish, while these lads depart early and head for the Oval.
