Well i certainly hope that we do, although once again this is going to be a very difficult game. But then again, is there such a thing nowadays as an "easy" game?? Football, being football, is completely unpredictable.

Ahh, but f*ck it, i'll have a pop at the score nevertheless.
I predict a 3-2 victory to the Glens. My Daughter is not so optimistic, she's going for a 1-1 draw.

We're obviously going to the game and i'm half-way there attempting to persuade my wife to tape the game live on Sky.

According to one of the local papers i read lately, the last time Cliftonville beat Glentoran at the Oval in the league was 1988.
But statistics go out the window, we start afresh on Friday night, and if you play even half as well as you did against us at Solitude, then you shall cause us major problems.

As one of my learned colleagues has pointed out elsewhere, Friday is the 10th anniversary of our last League title win, the score that day . . . . Cliftonville 1 - 1 Glentoran :thumb

Will not hold my breath that we will do very much...confidence is low at the minute...the forces of darkness will be hoping we get a result which i don't sit comfortable with...if we win then great lets go for second but if we lose then good luck....go on and win the title...either way we've gotta start preparing for another assault next year...

Aye, now that sounds like a plan.
 That location that we discussed earlier is probably the best alternative. I'll have the two wee lassies with me, so McHugh's (sp) it is.

Incidentally it's a wonder no one picked up on my typing error last night. It was, of course, 1998 the last time that Cliftonville defeated Glentoran at the Oval and not 1988 as i had originally (And unintentionally) typed.

Should be a good game game tomorrow, my young friend, and what more could you ask for?
Good company, good beer, good craic and hopefully a good match.
Now that's a winning combination if ever there was one.

All we can do is give it our best shot FR, go for the three points, and take it from there. I honestly can't see Linfield slipping up from here on in, can't see Glenavon or even Crusaders, whom they play on the last day of the season getting anything from those games.

If--and it's a big IF now--Gary Hamilton had managed to direct the ball at anywhere else other than straight at Mannus in the closing stages of last Saturdays game, then perhaps, it might have been a different story. This might have unsettled Linfield, made them more nervous.

But it was not to be.
All we can do now is attempt to keep winning, cross our fingers, and wish for a miracle!

It feels like it was 1988 since we won a league game over there

I dug out some stuff I have on DVD and found the game when Keith Alexander did a one man demolition job on the Glens :p and Marty Tabb scored a cracking OG :slap: ( can't even remember the year :( )

Yeah, i kinda remember big Alexander scoring one or two against us in years gone by. A good player, if i remember rightly did that lad play in the same team as Shaun Strang? I always rated Strang, that's the reason i ask you this.

I also remember the not-so -good days of Marty Tabb.(As a player BTW)
And by this, i mean that i also rated Tabb Highly.(Take this as a compliment) I seem to recall a series of Cliftonville wins both home and away against us--when Tabb and big Joe Kerr were marshalling the defence.

I'm sure that at some level or other we have all played the "beautiful game".
Although i played on the left-wing (Not politically BTW-lol) when i was a young man , and at that time held the view that attacking, attractive football got results, i have since changed my mind. I was a fool back then.

The way forward, if you wish to win games, is to concentrate on a very strong defence. Cliftonville did in those days, and punished us severely.

Brian clough won a Championship with Nott's Forest, with a defence of pure steel. Larry Lloyd was exceptional. Tony Woodcock and Trevor Francis up-front. let's not forget our own Martin O'Neill.
Terry Neil's Arsenal was almost unbeatable with a defence that included Scotland hardman Willie young. "Boring, boring Arsenal", they used to shout from the opposition terraces, but Neill got results.

I hold the view that if you build from the back, a stable midfield, a good winger which can supply crosses, and a couple of deadly centre-forwards then that team, when gelled, is practically unbeatable..

Alan McDonald take note......
:p

Shaun Strang was a class act ( honestly can't remember if he did/didn't play along side big Keith  )
Marty Tabb won the player of the year the season we won the league, at the age of 157, it wasn't bad going :smokin:
Big Joe Kerr, no nonsense defender and a bit of a cult hero :thumb

Almost brings a tear to the eye talking about them guys, only seems like yesterday
