if i had of been asked after three games would we qualify out of our group i would have said no way, but what performances we put in those last two games, well done to alan mcdonald, he comes in for a bit of stick sometimes and most of it is uncalled for, he got that team going tonight and we deserved it, under pressure at the end but that was expected, still cant believe we qualified.

i was indeed, first half thought we where brilliant, scullion and gardiner on the wings looked good, scullion especially. halliday is like a new player since waterworth came, hamilton-class, leeper-like a rock, morris was safe as houses. we came under some pressure but held up well, st pats couldnt cross thier legs at times, they where poor, but dont know how much of a team they had out. if st pats had of scored near the end, alot of questions would have been asked about mcdonalds subs, nixon off for mcgovern but nixon was injured, then gardiner off for bj, and scullion for waterworth, thought the last one was wierd when defending for our lives, but he pulled it off and a big well done.

and u better have a good excuse:eeek

By the sound of things it seems to have been quite a night HG, and makes pleasant reading that this was a good shift put in by the boys tonight, seems to have been a great team effort.

Er, um, yeah well, how about a bout off sheer laziness if the truth be told Holywood. I'll be brutally honest with you, i've been a season ticket holder at the Oval since the mid-Eighties and to my great shame i've probably watched about three Setanta Cup games live. I remember one against Cork City at the Oval a year or two ago and it was played like it was a pre-season friendly. The game had no bite, lacked commitment and passion and the atmosphere was --well, to be honest their was no atmosphere whatsover.

That is why i seldom open threads on here about our performances in this competition, (Not that up until present that they have been anything to write home about) as it would be unfair comment as i'm not at the games.

Fair play to you though, the standard seem to have picked up a great deal, and you seem have enjoyed yourself tonight as i would imagine that all Glenmen who where present did.

well bg i hope you make it down on monday night, should be a good atmosphere, had a great time down there last time, apart from a incident with a bus window, very cold trip home.

was hoping stute game was brought forward to friday night but doesnt look like it, no shane mccabe for game on monday and i think deano is still out, would love mcdonald to keep scully and grant on the wings they played very well. big decisions to be made.

anyway bring it on :disco

Yes, young Holywood, i am going to try my damndest to get to this game, more so for the sake of my daughter. My wee lassie was very excited when she heard the score last night and was delighted as i was that we had managed to progress.

Yes i read both accounts of the game that were published in the Newsletter and the Belfast Telegraph. Shane McCabe actually gets 'The Tele's' man of the match even though he was sent off late in the game, with Scullion, Fordyce and Grant Gardiner also recieving glowing reviews. Alan McDonald lavishes praise on our captain Paul Leeman for 'an outstanding performance'.
This certainly seemed to have been a great all-round team effort and i now regret not making the trip over to the Oval last night. Even the St Pat's boss, John McDonnell, conceded that we put up a 'terrific performance'.

anyway bring it on :disco

Yes indeed. I was talking to former Glentoran player big Chris Walker who was in my work today and he never spoke more truer words when he told me that this will do wonders for our teams all-round confidence.

Why thank you Red1. It's quite a task that lies ahead of us, and although a verrrry difficult one it is not an absolute impossibility. I'm not going to say too much at this stage. (I'll probably put the scud on them if i do, the reason we've done so well in this competition is maybe the fact that i have been absent) It's one game at a time for me so with this in mind i think that we should concentrate on Institute who play us this Saturday in the league.
