Yup will done indeed, watched it live last night on sop cast, the Glens goal was lucky and for the last ten minutes Drogheda threw everything at them including the perverbial kitchen sink but they staid firm and held out, enjoy your day out in the final.

i think the glens worked very hard, leeper and ward at the back where brilliant. leeper never should have been sent off, he will be a big loss in the final.
still cant believe we got out of the group never mind into the final. i dont thnk my heart could take another match like that. we really where under pressure for the majority of the match but as they say it doesnt matter how you win them, just as long as you win them.
cant wait to the final now, hope we can create another atmosphere like we did last night, was brilliant.
and any one who thinks that gazza wants to leave should have seen him last nite, straight over at the final wistle in with the fans. without a shadow of a doubt the best player in the league.
anyway bring on derry/cork i dont really give a toss:thumb

Not too many Blue Dogs saying well done - must be really p****d off that "We didn't take the Setanta Cup too seriously". They must think they have the divine right to qualify

still dont know yet, heard rumours that setanta want it to be held at either brandywell or turners cross depending on who gets there, also heard that if we get derry its to be played at windsor or dublin if get cork. so dont think anyone really has a clue until the setanta committee meet which is either tonight or tomorrow.
but really couldnt care where they play it as long as im there:Banana::thumb

Apparently the venue will be Turners Cross which seems unfair imo, should have played it at one of the venues in Dublin alas Tolka Park or something, but tbh Tolka Park is a sad shadow of its former self has went to the dogs a bit, Dayler might have been another option.

Should have been in the Capital.

Not really fair to play it in Belfast if a Belfast team is involved surely :hmmm

Load of pish having the final in Cork. Could they not have had it in Dublin, a wee bit fairer for both sets of supporters ?
Tough ask for the Glens to get a result against Cork, then again I thought Drogheda were a class act because they beat us'uns twice :therethere

Nice to see a lot of supporters on here from opposition teams congratulating us on making the Setanta final. I was obviously not at the game myself but i did watch it live on TV and i can tell you now it was absolutely unbelievable when the final whistle went. The cheer that went up in our house, well, i'm sure the neighbours three streets away heard us! Great stuff.
It was a real backs to the wall effort especially when we went down to nine men. (**** me i thought Malcolm was a diabolical referee, but Jesus, this guy Ritchie Winter takes the biscuit) Even during his analysis of the match, the normally hostile, outspoken and at times outrageous Felix Healey advised Paul Leeman to appeal the decision, describing his sending off as 'disgraceful'.
But anyway we are through and that's what counts.
Cork City in the Final to be played on November 1st, and if i'm honest i am once again going to struggle to make it. Nevertheless forget about my situation, it is good to read that you enjoyed yourself in Drogheda HolywoodGlens and that is what it is all about.

there was a good crowd of them down there but I dont think they would be welcomed back in a hurry. Got this quote from a Cork site:
Unfortunetly this was not the case. The owner was brutally assaulted by about 20 Glentoran fans and in front of his wife too. An absolute ******* disgrace

2nd November 2008, 00:32
It seems a crowd of Glenmen attacked a pub landlord with a bottle being used also and he is being treated in hospital for his injuries. As the above quote points out this was also carried out in front of his wife which imo makes it even more sickening.
The trouble wasn't just outside the ground either as there were quite a few coins and bottles thrown onto the pitch by Glentoran fans which were clearly seen on TV

I was at the Turners X for the match and 99.9% of the Glentoran fans were decent and well behaved. There were 1 or 2 muppets alright but sure we all have them. As a proud Cork man I think it shows how far we have moved on on this island when a football team and their supporters from East Belfast can come down to Cork for a sporting event and the majority of us enjoyed ourselves. Congrats to both sets of fans and well done Cork on a good win.

Yup its great to see that times have changed and sporting events like this are able to be held in the heart of Cark without any major incidents, well done on the win was an enjoyable game of footie,

sorry for lack of updates bg, dropped the laptop
cork was brilliant trip, but for me the muppets that came down waving the union jack spoilt it for me, i have would have no problem with any flags at a football match, but this flag was brought on the sole intention of causing offence, it was these same thugs that assulted the pub landlord. but i must say we did a good job of outsinging the billy boys and sash.
as for the game well the better team won, 2nd half they showed their class and we didnt turn up. bring on next years competition, final at the oval, bring it on :disco

Yes indeed lad, i completely agree with you. Unfortunately this match was played on a Saturday night, and that means, for me, trouble. I have to wrestle with my wife for the TV remote control on a Sat night and nine times out of ten, she wins. However i did manage to watch a large percentage of the game and i must concede that from what i seen Cork were by far the better team, especially in the second when they bossed this period from beginning to end. Congratulations to Cork FC and their supporters. They were worthy winners on the night.
As you say young man, better luck next year, although we now need to concentrate on more pressing matters at hand such as our quest to finish Champions this year. And that starts tomorrow at Seaview. C'mon the wee Cock 'n' hens.....:thumb

Yes, no doubts about it red marauder. Saturday night is 'ladies night' in our household, and by that i mean who has actual control over what is watched on the box. I was talking to a couple of Glenmen midweek, who travelled down to Cork for the game and we all drew the same conclusion. Cork City deserved their victory, and good luck to them.
