Anyone who attended last nights 'top-of-the table clash' can now see for themselves just how poor a team we really are under the dreadful leadership of the woeful Alan McDonald. That was fully exposed last night. Once again we were second best to every 50/50 ball. Once again players playing hopelessly out of position. Once again playing with no wingers. Once again no threat or menace whatsoever when we attempted to go forward. And once again Glentoran players strutting around the Windsor Park pitch, through a lack of leadership and tactics, like headless chickens.
A truly woeful, shocking and completely inadequate and unacceptable performance.
Another small point of interest. I noticed Big Jeffrey's, as per usual, emerging from his box several times to roar orders at his players, thump his chest as if to signal "Show some heart", obviously trying to inspire his team in such a high profile game.
As for his counterpart, McDonald? Stood leaning against the dugout completely immobile. We might as well have had the "John Smith bitter cutout figure" (From the old adverts) representing us, he'd probably have done a better job!!
Reading through today's Newsletter I could not help but notice yet another bizarre quip from McDonald:
"We shot ourselves in the foot in the final 10 seconds after defending so well all night, but there is still a long way to go yet but i'm sure the neutrals are loving it".
Yes, the neutrals. They, according to McDonald are 'loving it'.
Since when has it become the job of McDonald to show concern about 'the neutrals'? He should be more bloody interested in to how his supporters feel and are reacting over dreadful performances, which he, as first team coach is directly responsible for. No one else can be held accountable for this shambles. I'm sure his employer, Glentoran FC are far from concerned about 'neutrals' and I should say that he should do the same.
Leave the corny quips to the people whose job it is to spin IL football, the sports commentators , the press writers and the football pundits.
He is employed by Glentoran FC to win trophies. One of those trophies is the Irish League Championship. That should be his priority and to win it as quickley as possible.
Rant over.
We'll be at the Oval on Saturday for the game against Institute.
