View Full Version : Glentoran V Hibernian (Pre-season friendly)
According to a report in today's Newsletter Scottish Premier side Hibernian are due to visit Belfast to play Glentoran in a pre-season friendly on Saturday July 25th. Taken from "Extra-time" the sports supplement supplied within the Newsletter, on page38:
"Hibernian heading to the Oval for Glens exhibition". Scottish Premier League giants Hibernian will play Glentoran in a pre-season friendly on Saturday July 25. The Easter road outfit are to visit Belfast and Dublin as part of an Irish tour, taking in a clash with Alan McDonald's JJB sports Premiership champions in the process.
The Glens will have Champions League qualifiers to honour early in July.
Boss McDonald said: "We are delighted to have the opportunity to play Hibernian at the Oval and it will be important for us to see how far we have come as a team as we set to defend our domestic League title. I know the players will relish playing against one of the top teams from Scotland and it will be a valuable part of our preparation as our domestic fixtures commence two weeks later".
Yeah, looking forward to seeing Hibs and they'll certainly provide a stern enough test for the Glens.

Another good friendly for the Glens, considering they had Hearts last year.

Be plenty in the Hibs end.
I would doubt very much if it shall be 'all ticket'-lol.
To be honest with you I would not be surprised if we did beat Hibs, as I have to truthful with you here, I do not rate Scottish football as a great spectacle overall. If you take the old-firm out of the equation the rest are barely worth a mention. And in saying that I have no love for the old firm either. Oh, sure it is true that in so-called battles of Britain ,yes, they have performed reasonably well but I think that if either team was to field a team in the English Premiership they would be crushed like twigs. Both would be relegated within a couple of years (The first year, i'll give the benefit of the doubt to both but only after barely surviving relegation) the second, they would not be so lucky. I believe that both Celtic and Rangers --and both appear to be foolishly adored by folk within both communities here-are both no use in the footballing terms, and deserve one another in a boring and dull two team league (How exciting!) that commands little or no interest whatsover for me. Still every man to his own and if you believe--no matter which of them you support--that a two-team championship 'challenging' side is your idea of a healthy league that commands the interest of the general public season in, season out, then good luck to you.
And as for the rest of your teams, well to be honest, you've no better than what we have here in the Irish league. You are not a decimal or two above us, believe me.
I can recall many friendlies between your lot and our lot (By that I do not necessarily mean the Glens but I am referring to IL teams performances overall when our wee league faced Scottish opposition) throughout the years. And we put you to the sword. I'll look these up if called upon, and I believe that the Glens shall now defeat Hibs as the latter team are at a standard no better nor no worse than ourselves. We certainly have every chance, even in a meaningless friendly such as this!
