Always a clash not for the feint-hearted this one but this is always the fixture that supporters of both teams look forward to the most in the Irish League calander. Always gauranteed a good atmosphere, tension, passion, a real roller-coaster ride of a game. Mouth watering stuff and hopefully this forthcoming fixture shall be no different.

I have only been able to watch the Glens in a couple of pre-season friendlies so far this season, due to circumstances that I have already mentioned on another thread last night, I have not been able to attend the past couple of matches so the season starts in earnest for the wee lass and I this Tuesday.
So far to date it has been a bit like the classic novel 'a tale of two cities', meaning that while Glentoran have got of to a very good start winning both their fixtures away from home the Blues have made a somewhat indifferent start by there normally high standards and have only managed to secure a point to date for there efforts on the field of play. Not that I am in any way complaining about this although I think it a pretty safe bet to say that Mr Jeffrey's certainly is.

But we should not take anything for granted. The Blues would love nothing more than to get back to winning ways by putting one over 'the auld enemy' and we should be very wary of this. It is never an easy task claiming the Linfield scalp but then what match nowadays ever is?

New signing Keith Gillespie shall be paraded to the Oval faithful this Tuesday and I think that this is a great signing for us. If any of you read todays Sunday Life sports editor Jim Gracey wrote a nice tidy article on page 112 regarding the capture of Gillespie. To quote Mr Gracey:

"Keith, if he stays the course, is the signing to end Glentoran's 40-year bogey of failure to win back to back titles, I've no doubt about that"

Mr Gracey then mentions and compares the signing to that of Trevor Anderson whom the Blues signed in the late 70's (He was another cracking player in his heyday) but getting back to Gillespie he is quoted as saying:

"Defenders will get a headlight but the whole of the new Carling Premiership will be dazzled."

Mr Gracey also heaps praise on Glentoran (And quite rightly so) for having the ambition to sign a player of Mr Gillespies ability in the first place, again to quote Mr Gracey:

"It's a bold move by Glentoran and their backers and they deserve to be applauded".

If you have a copy of todays Sunday Life, this article is both well written and presented and worth a read.

Okay that's it for now. Just leaves the usual predictions that myself and my fourteen year old daughter always have a pop at but we never do seem to get right. I think that that must be some kind of terrible record, I'll certainly never give up my daytime job to become a tippster! With a record as abysmal as mine at predictions online here I don't think that I'd be in business very long!

As they say, here goes nothin':
BG: Glentoran 2-1 Linfield.

Miss BG Jnr: Glentoran 3-2 Linfield.

Yes, there can be no doubts that David Jeffrey's shall come under intense pressure should Linfield fail to take something from Tueday nights eagerly awaited fixture.

Although Jeffreys initial decision to release Ferguson suprised me at the time I honestly thought that he had an ace or two up his sleeve as I said that at the time on the Linfield section of these forums. I honestly thought that he had a fairly decent replacement lined up to take Ferguson's place but this does not now appear to be the case and the bluedogs are far from happy. Speaking to one or two of them in my work I get the impression that they believe that 'granda Glenn' was released before his time. They reckon that there was still life in the old dog yet and he was still very able and more than capable of doing a reasonable enough job for them.
Mr Jeffrey's does not appear to be flavour of the month thanks to that now somewhat bizarre decision that he made and the fact that they are of to a bad start on the domestic front will heap even more pressure on him.

I think it safe enough that to be able to add to my comments that Mr Jeffrey's is persona-non-grata at Windsor park at the minute.
If Linfield fail to put a run together shortly the section F boo-boys shall be starting to clear there throats.
