just watching chan 5 – Star ship Troopers – what a load of crap!

Its just pointlessly violent – I hate films like this – like all of Van Danms films – a load of bollox – but just pointlessly violent.

What you think of these films that are just violent, gory and sick and got nothing else like story line?

pointless violence is just annoying, but it does depend on the film, cos it might work well with the plot, or it might spoil a perfectly good film

like all of Van Danms films Ahhh.... Jean-Claude Van Damme a ridiculed hero here in frogland....not purely the fact that he is of Belgium origin is enough to have us wetting ourselves...some of his interviews for promoting his films in France have become cult viewing here...there is a site with the transcripts of these interviews I will have to look it out...trust me they are absoloutly hilarious and mainly in English.....
As for violence in films....it is a tough one to call that!!...after all a Dirty Harry film would not be a Dirty Harry film without it would it??..Films are a fantasyland type of thing but with the advances in SFX they are now becoming more realistic...think of the differences between that of seeing a small bloody hole in the head against the opening scenes of Private Ryan...( the rest of the film being crap) is a perfect example of this...What does annoy me is the delightful mass murdering teen shock horror crap that has and is still being churned out...the effects of that genre of film have been seen all over the world...Science Fiction is just that and if the film needs to use gore, so be it...but at the end of the day you leave the cinema thinking that was just a film....after all what are the chances of getting attacked by giant man eating radioactive spiders in Leicester Square...

Found it just scroll and click on the flash thingy (http://home.urbanet.ch/urba0950/beaware/#) Ok this is not in English but it is pure class:laugh:

Starship Troopers is a fantasic film - one of the most under-rated of it's time. Denise Richards is great, and the whole undertone of the film is played superbly.

The violence beautifully contradicts the innocence of the characters.

NUKE EM!!

Pure entertainment! A film which was never meant to be taken seriously, a B movie with a budget. Top film.

Hate cheesey Van Damme type stuff or fighting aliens. I like films like Scum and Gangster No.1, good old fashioned violence with fists, feet and chibs:)

As a sci-fi fan, Starship Troopers was one of those films I was dying to see. I watched it last nite for the 2nd time and realised how cheesy and keek it was. I actually prefer the computer generated type series that Sky One used to show, twas real quality.

i dont necessarily think ST was pointlessly violent, i enjoyed it very much because it pulled no punches. Im sick of Sci-Fi's that cut out most of the violence, lazers that make people dissappear, or someone dissappears into this monster thats gonna eat them, but you never see em half chewed etc! ST thought out what it would be like if a giant praying mantis got a hold of you and what it would do to your body, too tru. A brain sucker, well wot did you expect, suck the brains out using ESP or something? Great, stick a big spike in and suck the grey matter out :D

Great film, IMO!

Yeah I noticed that too - tis a film I've never seen and didn't manage to catch it when it was re-released a while back.

Knowing me I'll probably forget about it or something tho :(

Don't know if I'm rare or something but a Clockwork Orange is one of the worst films i've ever seen :)

You may not be rare Kev but it is considered a classic though not for some people's tastes. Also, considered one of Kubrick's best but my fave of his is Paths of Glory. Having said that, I've never actually seen A Clockwork Orange.

I watched ST a while back and whilst it is unnecesarily violent, it is supposed to be a cheesy, tongue-firmly-in-cheek B-movie film. I, myself, am not a fan of gory, pointlessly violent movies. One of the reasons why I haven't seen Hannibal - not that it compares to ST in violence quota - but when you have films with that subject matter the norm is to go OTT.

I also preferred Dina Meyer in Starship Troopers not Denise Richards. I lost all respect for her when she was in that Bond movie as a rocket scientist -huhhh(???) scantily clothed in a halter top and shorts. I mean - come on!! Today's violent movies might push the boundaries of realism, as is their want, but Denise as a nuclear scientist beats that all ends up...

starship troopers is one of robert heinleins best books... if you think the movie was nothing but "pointless violence", you missed an intricate part of what he was trying to say about philosophy and political ideas.

violent movies
Last Man Standing
Ninja Scroll - Japanese Anime, bloody as hell
Natural Born Killers

alot more but i cant remember them

Blade 2 has the exact same story line as the first one just there on the vampires side trying to kill super vampires. Quite confusing really

Yeah but it is much better than the first in terms of cinematography, direction, and content... I m a big fan of Hong Kong cinema and when Blade came out in the cinema I enjoyed it but the fight scenes were just so s-l-o-w which took away from the overall film for me, however, Blade 2 corrected this point and was better for it in my opinion

I don`t mind violence in films as long as fits within the dramatic context or helps to move the narrative on...

btw anyone seen Beat Takeshis Battle Royale ~ what`d you think????

I love Starship Troopers, one of those films in that sort of genre that i really like for some reason, probably because all the main actors are about my age i spose, i bought it today on DVD as well.
