More than 12 million employees - 40% of the total UK workforce - are said to be suffering from "afternoon apathy".

New research, released on Wednesday, shows that carbohydrate-loaded lunches are to blame for the slump, which is costing the British economy at least £3.9 million a year.

A total of 1,000 randomly-selected adults showed that almost half chose to eat a starchy baked potato for lunch at least once a week while more than a third opted for a weekly burger or other form of fast food.

Both meals lead to so-called "afternoon apathy syndrome".

I used to be apathetic but now I don't give a shit.

coincidence you should bring this up because our year head did his assembly on it this morning. the one thing he said at the end was:

"who conducted this research? might it've been the food companies who produce foods which supposedly stop Afternoon Apathy??"

I must say im a ****in lazy bastard in the mornings, less of a lazy bastard in the afternoon, and would do most work at night.. I just feel like who gives a shit in those times, and struggle to actually lift a muscle! Usually tho i find its bad sleep patterns, like late one night, early next, late, evening naps etc, whereas when im hittin the sack same time every night around 12 and up at 8, i dont get it....

I spose it depends on the quantity you eat at lunch - Sunday afternoons are a bugger after a big roast dinner and all ya want to do is have a kip.
