I was at my in-laws for a family reunion last Saturday. When dinner was served, my 6 year old nephew suddenly stood up and solemnly annouced that he would be a vegetarian for the rest of his life. He said that he found the idea of eating meat totally unacceptable because meat comes from animals and animals are living things and its wrong to kill, blab, blab, blab...

Everyone at the table was caught a bit off-guarded by all this. My brother-in-law was basically speechless. All he could stammer out was some lame reason like meat is nutritious and all that. And he knew he wasn't winning the argument.

I was dumbfounded coz I know I too would not be able to handle that situation. Kids these days are so sophisticated. (And I am not so sure I am using the right adjective?) My kid is 2 now and I don't know what it would be like in a few years time.

Anyone here feeling the same stress of parenthood? Had you ever been caught in situations similar to this?

I would have said Ok fine and serve him boiled cabbage for as long as it takes him to come to his senses...
