which films were better in sequel or should of been left alone at the first attempt???

Some films have got stronger in sequels for example

Austin Powers
American Pie
Hot Shots
Police Academy (except 7)
(noticed the trend yet)
Blade
Rush Hour

Some films were weak sequels..

Jurrasic Park
Free willy (so my sister tells me honest ;))
Most Disney cartoon films
Scary Movie

Some were weak sequels of a sequel

Naked Gun 33 1/3
Scream 3

Anyone else think of more examples??

The Empire Strikes Back was awful IMO, but Star Wars was so far ahead of it's time that it would've taken a lot to beat it. Return Of The Jedi was a bit better but still nothing special.
The Phantom Menace was good, but Attack of the Clones again wasn't much cop, except for the bit when Yoda was fighting. Still bought all of them on video though, and can't wait for Episode Three.

Sequels that were at least as good or better than the original:

American Pie 2
Terminator 2
Empire Strikes Back
Back To The Future 2

Sequels that were awful:

Blair Witch Project 2
Grease 2
Halloween 3, 4, 5 and 6(H20 and Resurrection were okish)

No they didn't. And how can anyone say Tremors 3 is better than the original.

GF part 2 is, imo, better than the first, but it's part of a trilogy.

Here's a tough one. Alien or Aliens?

Not quite up there with "I could have been a contender..." from On The Waterfront, or Olivier delivering the St Crispen's Day speech though, is it?

Gail - Sacrilege. The general consensus is that TESB is the best of the Star Wars movies. I didn't really like TESB but preferred ROTJ of the three. Says it all about me really. :)
I thought AOTC was better but TPM was good as well and it had the better villain of the two but it also had Jar Jar Binks!! So that kinda balanced it out.

Marlin, I had the Alien/Aliens discussion with me old lady and she said definitely Aliens. I loved Aliens, arguably one of the finest sequels ever made. However, I lean towards Alien because of the overall suspense. For that nothing tops the Harry Dean Stanton scene with the cat and, dare I say it, John Hurt!! Top notch.

About that St Crispen's Day speech wasn't that Henry V? I just haven't seen the first four parts yet. ;)

Nobody did  Tremors 3 and Lethal Weapon 4 were both dreadful

My fav movie at the moment has to be Blackhawk Down

Tough?!?!?!

1. Aliens (9/10) - best action scenes, lots of excellent characters and the best plot, could have done with a film to cover the action before the marines set off for and arrive on LV-426

2. Alien Resurrection (8/10) - good action scenes, maybe a more believable plot needed

3. Alien 3 (7/10) - not bad, plenty of action and good characters

4. Alien (6/10) - too slow moving, more of a thriller than the others

In retrospect, I wish I'd bought all four on video instead of just Aliens and Alien Resurrection :(

I would like to see them make a fill-in film to cover the Aliens taking over LV-426. It wouldn't need any of the Aliens cast, only newt would feature and it wouldn't ruin the film if the original newt wasn't in it

Owzat - Leave the premises RIGHT now!! Alien Resurrection AND Alien3 better than Alien?? Surely, surely you jest.
Maybe you should have done some statistics on this an' all. :)

Watched this film at the weekend. Wouldn't give it any more than 7/10. Not nearly as frightening as the billing suggested.

Anyone know where I can get a VHS copy of The Men Behind The Sun?

You sick puppy...

I've got a number for a guy who has it. I'll root it out and PM it to you.

Cheers Marlin - a girl in work assures me that it's the sickest film she's ever seen (and she's seen a few). It's also supposed to be a cut above your average gore-fest, being based on actual events.

Very very nasty indeed.

Personally, the film I found hardest to watch was Salo by Pier Paolo Pasolini. Sickening. The Baby of Macon by Greenaway wasn't far behind either. Last House on the Left was somewhat unpleasant, but a bit video nastyish to take seriously.

Try and find an uncut copy of Ichi the Killer. That'll do the trick nicely...
