We all hate them - some are great at them some like me shit themselves and squirm around in the chair like a twat..
But in the past 3 days i've had two telephone interviews from Nationwide and Natwest banks for jobs i've gone for.
this is completely new experience for me and to be honest i definately like them as i cant see noone writing notes and looking bored as i ramble on!
Its quite common practice now to have these - anyone else had them?
No, but in the last 2 weeks I've had 2 interviews which consisted of 9 questions and 6 questions respectively...
Which to me is NOT sufficient grounds to give someone a job - specially the questions they asked... well thats my opinion anyway!

ji - i got my last job with morrisons on two questions!!
a, who am i and whats my background
b, do i like hotels!!!
shame i didnt stay long enough to get the hotel taste of it...
LOL well aren't you the smartarse then! :p
While the questions were generally relevant, to me there was nothing that would really get an impression of your abilities or any of that crap... maybe thats just me tho!
Saying that, having dozy questions makes the whole interview nightmare that bit easier to get through!
Even if the last lot did keep me waiting 28 minutes past my interview time!!!!

I suppoose a telephone interview would be good if the job involved Telesales but surely the best option to judge someone is to see them or as James put's it
some like me shit themselves and squirm around in the chair like a twat.. In all the job interviews I've had I have always felt confident even my first interview in France when the only real words I knew were Bonjour and Merci....worked due to personal confidence...
I find that pretty sad companies employ over a phone call...

I've had telephone interviews twice before--I thought it was much easier, actually, I could sit on the couch in my dance clothes and my hair in a ponytail instead of having to wear some pretentious outfit and worry about my posture!

For my job, which is Lunn poly call centre, the first stage was a telephone interview for obvious reason but then the real hard work started. Five interviews I had to go through before I got the job. Five I tell you
We gathered it was five from the first bit.

Having been made redundant today, looks like I'm gonna have to sharpen up general interview skills as they're surely gonna be needed.
I rang up respond to an ad in the local paper for Sky and had an unexpected telephone interview - most of the ones I've gone for in the past you usually just give your name and address and wait for the application form.
Still can't beleive I'm outta work, harsh as ****. Hits you hard. It's more knackering walking around to agencies and job centres than it is doing a days work at the office.

Ouch, I'm sorry...
That happened to me twice in the course of one year, so I can completely empathise.
Hope the UK job market is better than the US market!

Cheers, it's not so much the job itself as I have been scanning for a new one for months, it's just the shellshock - one minute you're all alright, the next your down the dole office.
