Good to see him back in the Premiership with Blackburn. Hope Souness gives him a chance next season to reproduce the form he showed when he started his career with Man Utd.

And hopefully it will do his confidence no harm when playing for Northern Ireland as well.

Have to disagree here Daz. He played his best game in ages against the Czechs admittedly, but look what he has around him. When he started off in the squad he was our greatest threat in actually creating a scoring opportunity and he's bagged a few as well - don't forget 13 is still the top scorer record

well that fine but he was at his best for us, a prime example of which is the Barcelona game.

But it was at Newcastle that all his bad habits developed off the field. And ultimately resulting in his form suffering. Sir Alex would never have let that happen.

sir alex wouldn't have let gillepsie be a first team regular, if he'd stayed at manu he would have been playing reserve football.

When he left he had just become a regular in the side and was improving every game.

i'm sure he would have kept out Beckham out of the team.

Beckham would never have been allowed to develop if Gillespe had stayed. He was a CM origionally, and only got a chance on the right because of the departure of Kanchelskis and donkeyness of Poborski.

If you going to make sarcastic comments Malkin, then make sure your correct for a change.

More to the point, United fans at the time believed that the Geordies got Gillespie on the cheap, less than a million it was in fact.

If he had stayed his improvement would certainly have continued but he lost all confidence under Keegan, that great man motivator.

ok, so if there were such great plans for gillespie, why did the great man himself let him go for only 1mil?

Because he wanted Cole. Jesus man, were you not around at the time.
