What do you mean 'in my lifetime'?!?! My parents were still in nappies last time Wales qualified for an international tournament (and then only after a play-off).
Of course, you could also count 1976 when we played Yugoslavia in the last umpteen of the European Championships.
As for the future, well, we've got the 40th biggest population in UEFA, the 39th best league and the 44th best international side. Pick your own answer...

I doubt we'll ever make it again and I take it your vote is a no!

I live in hope. When the Iron Curtain folded in the late 80's I thought that would have given us a better chance, unfortunately that was not the case. We have so much talent but never 11 players at one time!!
