i find the trick on 14 is to knock it to the left a touch and have a go at the hole from a straighter angle

Yeah, i noticed that when playing the online version. I first played this game when someone emailed it to me as a file, and its a bit different... you can actually see the hole. I couldn't find anywhere to download it though.
