Even though I hate watching this, it's still an achievement to get this.

Well it's good that after all the American imports we get here, we can send them some of our own comedy back. Although I don't find The Office funny at all, I blame it on the fact that I'm Northern.

What's being Northern got to do with hating The Office anyway. I hate it and I'm not Northern.

northern = common sense, therefore we can tell that gervais is a prick.

Northerners talk shit, dress shit, have shit and sound like shit. They are the epitome of shit.

What planet are you losers on?? You have no taste at all. Let me guess you watch Friends, Will and Grace and all that American sh*t! The Office is genius and its great to see a British comedy doing well in the USA.

At least we dont put random 'r's after our 'a's in pronounciation, amongst other things (going to the pab?)
Have shit? well we have shits, do you not?
Northerners have a different sense of humour, and the office doesn't do it for me personally, bits of it are funny but its mainly some bloke making a fool out of himself. Peter Kay's comedys and Johnny Vegas are much more my sort of stuff because they're from my area (and hilarious).
Still, its good a British Comedy won an American award, our quiz shows are usually our only good telly export.

As we're all from the same country (and a small one too) I don't see that our senses of humour differ too much

I don't mind the Office, but Peter Kays comedy is better in my opinion because I can relate to it more.
But these American comedies are on British TV to give the term Overated more of an accurate meaning, compared to the British comedies they are nothing, the best American comedies are cartoons, Will & Grace, Friends, Sex & the City are all crap yet Channel 4 would much rather show these over Phoenix nights or Father Ted

Now I've heard everything. Trying to rate comedy on the basis of whether a comedian is from your own neck of the woods or talks like you !
If that's the basis , its got less to do with laughing because somebody is genuinely funny , more that they make you feel comfortable.

Yes, well done Office. and nice to see a show without the word "celebrity" in the title getting the recognition it deserves.

I was surprised that it was even nominated. But happy that it won both Best Comedy and Comedy Actor. Most papers made a big deal of the fact that it was more of a shock, not cos it is British and won, but cos the show is not on regular TV but on BBC America - a lesser known cable channel. What they fail to see is that the GG are voted for by the Hollywood Foreign Press. A body made up of mainly TV and film critics. This thereby increases it's chances as they get to review the show for magazines, TV and general viewing etc. Gervais and the Office would probably have stood less of and probably no chance were it, say, the Emmy's.
I really like the Office. Brent kills me. Not sure if comedy makes much of a difference being from the North or South. I love Peter Kay - ****ing hilarious - and I'm from London.

I really like Peter Kay, but Gervais is, in my extremely important opinion, better.
