Did it take you long to settle into a new culture? Do you have any regrets about moving out of the UK?

Are you interested in moving away then?

Where is it you fancy?

I have around 2 days to decide on whether I will be moving to Cyprus or not to go into a partnership in buying a snackbar/sandwich shop and move over in July.

If its a yes, I'll need to fly over this Friday with my brother-in-law to sign the papers and give a big deposit. The shop we have seen needs a little bit of work done on it, but its at a very reasonable price. The books add up, the accountant is happy with everything and the landlady of the building is more than happy to have us.

a) I'll be sober from not having drunk too much cheap beer.
b) I should have received the bill for how much tax I'm gonna have to pay on last years earnings..
c) The fallout from the Sunday local/regional elections settle down and whether the prime minister gets the sack or not...

:)

Cyprus....bit diff from France mate...but' that's neither here nor there...

Thing that is worrying me is the urgence or has it been on for quite a while....Remember Cyprus in in the middle of some major political turmoil at the moment...what looks good on paper don't always work out in reality...

I personally would have some major reservations about this....

I had to work in Sc*nthorpe for a week once - That was like being on pluto and I had to spit out of the car window every time I reached the South bank of the bridge!!!!

Where are you going?

As far as the timing, are you applying for a temporary work visa or permanent residency?

For the soccer, if you're a fan of the game and not an elitist, there is probably an MLS team near you.

Fox Sports World, if you get cable, also shows about 2 games a week.

I moved away from the UK about 3 years ago. I miss some basic things like certain foods (Jaffa Cakes!) and TV (Eastenders and Corrie are 9 months behind here!) but I settled in pretty well and never looked back. Family is probably the thing I miss most.

Saying that...I first moved to The Bahamas and after two years I realised that it is a third world shit-hole and not the beach paradise I expected. So, I moved to Toronto instead and it is much more civilised :) The integration here I assume is much easier than moving to Cyprus though.

Spent a little over 5 years livng and working in NY ('97-'03)

It was a great experience. Although, I did miss old Blighty. I would definitely go back there to work but, I know it may sound strange, I really love it over here. My only beef about living there is that I found people didn't socialise as well there as they do here. Also, being the home body I am, I missed my English food. :)

John - Let's not mention those loser Jets, shall we? Cheers. ;)
