View Full Version : The official going off to uni thread....

Maybe there have been others this year but they are not important as they were not written by me, and I am a senior member of FF and also have an exceptionally small one....

Well I am off to start at Exeter in a week to do English lit, and to be honest I just can't be bothered with all this waiting...it's terribly boring, such a long summer, gives me time to think (bad idea). Soon I'm going to be thinking about "lasts," ie last time going to Wimpy, last time on me home computer, last everything...

OK people, who else is off then?

Will all you lot be getting your loan on time? I should but apparently there will be a lot of delays. People who applied after 1st July will be the ones most likely affected. Also a fume is the payment schedule letter as the uni needs to scan it this year, so i have to go and hand that in next week as well

Same here. Well, it's freshers next week, but worth going back that week to see the new talent:drool:

Rent is £75 a week each, sharing with 4 others in a real nice house.

Don't worry about the student loans - there's been a lot in the media saying you WILL get them in time for start of term.

I go in just under 10 hours to Nottingham Trent to do Psychology and Criminology.

Best thing i've heard is Freshers week actually last two weeks instead of one. :D

Although still haven't started packing yet, just can't be bothered. Still can't believe i'm going to Uni tomorrow.

Have fun everyone who's going/gone.

I'm going back to Liverpool John Moore's University tomorrow for my final year..

Cannot really be bothered with it all as I've had another excellent summer and the thought of getting my ass outta bed in the coming winter months depresses me immensely!

Well sadly gravity and old age are laws which affect even the four-legged amoung us; I am indeed actually 18, and I have not assumed a fake FF username for internet pissabouts for at least a year... which is quite frankly scary...perhaps I should become a bit more old skool for the last week to keep the dream alive...

And as a retort, James and James_F, I should point out that the two of you seem to have been online since about 1970...

19th September 2004, 20:49
Rachel, will you still stay true to your roots in the Sheffield or will you hang around Broomhill with your new studenty friends in the student ghetto so you don't have to mix with the locals?

swfc_babe85
19th September 2004, 20:54
I'll be whereever my sexy best mate is that has just move from Lincoln. As well as going to Warwick, Lincoln, Hull to see my mates.

swfc_babe85
19th September 2004, 21:07

Jagielka
19th September 2004, 21:14
Well, you probably might do, but friends invariably drift apart, you will have your new Uni friends, and they will have their new Uni friends. Some people (I'm not saying you are one of them) seem to have some sort of idea in their heads that they are going to keep in touch with everyone from School when they leave to go far away to Uni or work etc, when in reality, that very rarely happens. Even family members like cousins end up drifing apart.

Thats my 2 pence anyway, perhaps you will keep in touch, and perhaps the old cynic in me will be proved wrong. ;)

19th September 2004, 21:19
I doubt it.

swfc_babe85

I only want to keep in touch with 2 of them really anyway and thats the one in Lincoln and the one in Warwick.

So essentially what you are saying is that you want to go back to uni, but you don't want to go back to uni when you will be going back. :D

hmmm, yeah, sums it up!

Correct. Me and my mates agreed to see each other and visit their unis and such but I've only been to dirty Leeds (stop off on the way home from Newcastle) and Manchester (when I was living at home) though. I'm too far away really and can't be arsed shelling out for a shite train from the North East. See everyone in the summer as we all returned home but I might stay in toon this summer so I won't see them...

Its a good campus life and theres a lot to do on student nights, its very much a student town its a great place to go to uni.

Bad choice of UNI there mate, you do realise that Hatfield has about 2 pubs and thats about it. That leaves you with the Student Union bar which is full of ugly student birds and the rugby teams daring each other to drink their own sick:sick:

haha i`ve been to that uni bar a good 30 times and loved it everytime. you have to pick the right night... saturday is usually club classics and old skool. found a fair few nice ladies there too ;)

hatfield is shite, but st albans is just a 20 min bus ride of 10 minute drive away

I went there quite a few times my first year due to the fact i was living on campus so it only took 2 mins to walk there but i only went there once or twice in my final two years, went to St Albans instead.
Worse of all though was Destiny's on a Monday night, it used to be pretty empty and hardly had any drinks in stock:no:

Athers

Little trick for people too, sometimes in the lectures they will hand out blank timetables for you to cross where you are busy so they can arrange seminars. MAKE SURE YOU CROSS ALL THE 9AM ONES REGARDLESS.

It's not lies, I did nothing in my first year and despite a couple of surprising narrow failures on two modules I easily passed them once I actually got off my arse for a few hours.

Working hard this year though, made my 9am lecture even though I got in from the casino at 4am this morning. Turns out I can't do that module anyway, waste of my time.

The course got underway today, altho sum seminars n shit dont start til next week. Got fleeced 80 squid fer 2 books, absolute pisstake! They aint even that big

Social life is decent, been so much goin on on campus that ive only been into Norwich durin the day, goin fer a nite out in the city tomorrow, Mercy niteclub looks decent - anyone been?

Athers
28th September 2004, 03:30
If you check the lecturers often have helped to write the book so they plug them, don't succumb to them! I bought ZERO books in the first year and kept the money for beer.

The 9am lectures are fairly amusing as you see your fellow pissheads clutching their bottles of water during almost nodding off, as I shall be tomorrow !

Yes and i personally think it shite because the djs a twat. However it is the best place to go in terms of atmosphere and there is some decent talent. If you can try to get to Po Na Na before (all my best nights last year were in pos) it shuts earlier but its much better music you can get hammered then and move on to Mercy.
