Yes, Jeff Buckley IS dead, and no the La's have not made new material, and no the Smiths havent reformed for another Strangeways album, and yes Kid A WAS released LAST year, not this year...
but this thread is best albums BOUGHT this year, innit?
so thats what I wrote!
As for the new Aphex Twin album, Ive seen it get really bad reviews (2/10 in one!) - and one (very unconvincing) 5 out of 5.
so lets just say i wont be RUSHING to the shops tomorrow morning to get a copy...

There is some newly released La's stuff out on Viper records, which is run by Paul Hemmings who played guitar with them in the early days and is now I believe with Lightning Seeds - it's called "Lost La's". Try www.viper.com I think.
The Elbow album was pretty good but goes on a bit. Watch out for Relish too but the best records I got hold of this year are Bob Marley Live at the Lyceum, The Relatives' Say It With Vodka EP and Death To The Pixies.
There's a hell of a lot of derivative sub-Coldplay crap round at the moment and it does my head in. Also, if The Strokes are compared to the Stooges or VU once more I'm going to break the journalist's legs who writes it.

I should clarify that the La's material is well early live stuff and demo recordings - Mr Maver is still in hiding somewhere up here.
