A CAR which smiles, frowns and has a 'relationship' with its owner is being launched by Toyota.

The firm claims the Pod car detects and reacts to the feelings of its driver through special sensors.

It's headlights look like eyes and its side lights look like ears - and it can smile, frown and cry.

Toyota has developed the Pod with Sony Corporation and it will be unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show next week.

They have not yet released a price.

The face of the four-seat, 1.5 litre engine is designed to light up a happy orange-yellow when its owner approaches.

If you puncture a tyre, run out of fuel or have a bump, it goes blue and cries.

If you swerve or brake too harshly the colour changes to an angry red.

The car can tell the driver's mood by checking his pulse or by how much he is sweating.

A Toyota spokesman said: "It takes the car from being just a tool, to being a partner."

I read this in the paper today. It talks to you and plays soothing music when you get wound up. Personally I can't think of anything more likely to enrage me than a car that advises you to calm down.

I can just picture it, driving down a quiet country lane, when all of a sudden, somebody cuts you up big time. You jump out to sock em one, when all of a sudden, classical music starts blurting out at full volume from your speakers!:o
