View Full Version : How much grog ?
StretfordEnd

How much booze do you drink in a week ?
The guidelines say 21 units a week for men, and 14 for women.
A bottle of spirits is 28 units, a bottle of wine is 9 units, a pint of lager 3 units and a can of lager 2.2 units.
I estimate my average weekly intake to be around 30 units a week, well over the allowance but not too bad.
Yours ? (Be honest  )

bout the same as you, usually couple of bottles of wine during the week and a few pints at football on saturday.
Wouldn't consider myself much of a drinker really, so it's interesting that i'm still over the advised amount. Must be a lot of people who drink that much in a typical weekend.

Our Uni newspaper had a little story on this last week and 4 randomly interviewed people (well not so random they were in the union bar) quoted 150 and 120 (male) and 75 and 90 (female).
Personally I go out 4 times a week plus watching football on the weekend. I drink about 400ml vodka before I even leave the house these days so my units will be over 100 pretty easily I think.
Kop
18th October 2004, 18:32
On Saturday alone I had about 19.6 units, I had a glass of wine on Sunday, and 4 bottles of Stella and two shot's of JD on Friday. This week so far that's probably about 25, game tomorrow night and out Thursday night so I reckon I'm gonna be on around 40 by the end of the week.
James_F
18th October 2004, 18:39
It makes you think this, because i'd estimate mine to be on average anything 70 + a week. I'll go out once or twice a week on the piss, but I drink 4 pints or so If I'm working (DJ), and I do that 3 or 4 times a week, on top of going out. Not to mention the drinks I will have before footie on a saturday.
Thinking about it now I must be aroud 100 units on average a week.
Hmmm.

About 21 most weeks. A lot higher if it's a special occassion or summat, usually just the one night a week plus before/after football really. I'm not one of these people who sits around at home drinking cans of beer.
Danny C

Monday - at least 15 units
Tuesday - 4.4 units
Wednesday - none
Thursday - about 12 units
Friday - about 8 units
Saturday - around 12 units (at least 20 on karaoke nights)
Sunday - about 5 units
Sorry I cant count how much that is.

Athers if you're drinking around 4 bottles of vodka a week mate you're well on your way to a drink problem dude. That's crazy.
I tend to drink more rarely these days - when I was in my teens I'd regularly get smashed off my face. Not so much these days. When I DO get pissed however I tend to drink a lot - guts of a bottle bottle of spiced rum (70cl), couple of beers, few Aftershocks etc. I only do that a couple of times a month though. More of a social drinker now.

Suppose it's a bit much but it's cheaper to drink half an 8 quid bottle of Glens before going out than paying over £2 a pint in Newcastle and starting from scratch as it'll take 6 before I get merry at all.
Everyone and everyone does it here at Newcastle Uni though and since I'm a big lad and 19 I'll be reet.

have baileys and advocaat in the fridge but not drunk any since my first week here.
when i'm at home with matthew i probably drink quite a bit because we tend to go the pub almost every night. but not big sessions just a couple of drinks. doubt i'll go over the limit ono a normal week.
on a night out, we probably both go miles over the limit

In a typical week I probably drink 2 bottles of wine and 6 cans of lager, plus if we have a home game I drink 3 or 4 bottles of Becks on a Saturday. So about 30 or 40 units a week, unless it's the week before I go shopping when I have no cans left. Then I drink shitloads of tea.

Varies greatly from week to week. But, I'll have 1-2 glasses of red wine a night during the week, which would total around 10 units. At the weekend I am out I'll drink a bottle of wine, which would take my total up to 19 units. On very rare occasions I'll drink a bottle of rum, taking me somewhat over my limit.
So, 10-20 average.

Where's Great White's amount then??? ;)
Mine, i dont usually bother drinking at home, got a pack of dinky stella's in the fridge, but only had 2 of them so far, got one now though whilst watching the footy. So on average i have 2 dinky bottles a week. Dont drink much at weekends anymore, probably once a month out on the piss. Never drink wine or spirits, only lager.
I had a massive disagreement with a very strong punch whilst at a mates bbq last summer, whilst betting 30 quid that i could down two pints of this punch. I got the money but also ended up very close to alcohol poisining, was bad for a week. Since that day i take it very very steady.

I hardly drink so usually zero. Over the past three weeks I think I've drank about 2 units, and before that, I didn't drink for about a month. If I go on a night out though, I'll usually drink up to about 16 units.

If i buy a crate at the start of a week i tend to go through over half of that in a week quite easily, sometimes all of it so i guess about (1.5x 16 bottles - 24 units.
Then i guess i do about 12-15 units over that or so if i go out.

I actually had to work this out recently for a course I was on. I was really shocked when I completely lied about teh amount of units I drink a week and still came up with around 70 (that was only including one night out when I was adding units up)
To be fair though I'll have a coupla pints after work every night I'm working (which was al the time over the summer) I go out at least twice a week and if we're just in at uni we'll usually have a couple of bottles of wine on the go. I know I need to cut back but it really just doesn't bother me as much as it should.
Having said that a friend and I went out after work the other week (so we didn't start drinking til bout midnight and we went straight to a club) and we managed to spend £130 between us in just under 2 hours on alcohol alone. Drinks weren't madly expensive either - when we actually sat back and looked at that we realised it was quite bad usually we can blame excessive money spending on cigs and taxis etc, but we got lifts that night and already had fags - that really made us think about how much we were drinking. A round was two drinks each and two shots each for around £15.

I did a course through work relating to the responsible serving of alcohol. We must have different stats on what consists of a unit. In general, 1 unit = 1 small glass wine / 1 half pint beer / 1 measure 40% spirit.
Also in Ireland the spirit measure is larger, 35.5 compared to 25.
When I get my full stats I'll get back to you.

I really wish things like buying new PS2 games actually did stop me from going out. The thing is I always end up going out and people always end up back around or back at somebody elses gaf playing these new games whilst consuming more alcohol until the early (was about 0930 this weekend) hours. Not even FM2005 will be a saviour this year.

I have a credit card but I've not collected it and didn't use it at all last year. I spent £15 on protecting me against fraud though. Just in case of emergencies. I want this PS2, am thinking of getting one second hand.

It won't be long before all the new consoles get released and everyone goes crazy for them.
Not really worth wasting money on a new one. If it plays, that's all that matters.

Get an Xbox mate, much better, but there are less games out. Having said that all the new titles seem to be coming to the Xbox now, because thay can do more with the graphic capability.

Get yourself to Bowlers in Trafford Park one Saturday morning when you're down this end of the world Athers, you'll get a chipped one for £70, so the games will be £4 each instead of £40 . . . ;)

No it was a closing night special
The pints were normally £2.50

And the silver pioneeer pin goes to... correct

HERE (http://www.meas.ie/drinkcalculator1.php) is one from the irish crowd, actually tells you to select actual drink types
