Why is New Year such a big deal with the Scots??? You can never escape a pipe band on the telly at this time of year not to mention Highland dancers and fiddle music.
Is Jools Holland part Scots too?

It's a time when you can get drunk, party, and act foolishly without complaint. Quite like every other day of the week for them really...

I have no objection to the Scotch having a bloody good time at hogmanay, good luck to them, but why we get it on TV down here is beyond me . . .

Thought as much. Though there have been a fair few to grace the hallowed turf over the years. :cute:

A better question...why are the English traditionless, and threatened by Irish/Scotish/American traditons and why do they knock and complain bout it.

We have 2,000 years of history, because we don't subscribe to rubbish like thanksgiving doesn't make us traditionless . . .

Back on topic and trying to avoid BA's usual crap about the US............
Hogmanay is a huge night for parties in Scotland and the whole new year thing is just an excuse. Scots people love a party in general for any reason and new year is one that applies to everyone and all can relate too. I dont really understand why it isn't so big in England but there isn't a huge difference.
If you poled Scots folk about what the new year traditions were then pipe bands, fiddle music and highland dancers would be WAY down the list.
Singing Auld lang syne after the bells, getting utterly blootered, carrying the obligatory bag (white carrier bag for the real treaditionalists) choc full of booze into some ****ers house you have never met before and helping them get utterly blootered and of course following it all up with a monster meal the following day are the main traditions of new year up here.
Time for me to go get another beer and a spliff before collapsing in bed so I can be fresh to start getting rubbered again early tommorow and be in just the right state for my old dears steak pie to be the business.
