What is this series about and is it good? Have yet to hear much about it.

There are a few on here who think it's crap but don't listen to them K@mps, your Uncle Yip knows best.

How do I explain briefly? The main character is Keifer Sutherland (Jack Bauer) and he works for a government terrorist unit. The whole series of 24 is based around each hour of the day.

There are more twists and turns than a twisty turny thing and is compelling viewing.

As far as I'm aware Jack loses his job at the start of the new series as he's seen as too big a risk to the new boss. There's really far too much gone on in the last 3 series to bring you up to speed but plonk yourself down on Sunday night in front of the box and report back here.

it's shit. Like an average action film drawn out to breaking poitn, but thinks it's ddead clver cos they do split screens and stuff. rubbish.

Only seen day 3 and now the first 2 hours of day 4. Quality show imo, very good at building and keeping tension.

Norks? never heard em called that before.

First series was good but it is stretching it a tad now. How much cr*p can happen to one guy ffs?

Stopped watching after series 2.

This new series is according to the Americans the best yet and after watching it yesterday it sure has the potential. But with all the new characters it won't be the same if you get what I mean.

Is definately one of the best TV series for a long time though

I haven't got S*y One, and a quick glance in the Radio Times confirms that there was indeed a double episode on S*y Travel last night, the first 2 hours of series 4.

Exactly the same episodes we had on Sky One... perhaps Sky Travel are using the show to promote cheap flights to LA, a wonderful terrorist hotspot?

I'm wondering if it was a taster to entice people to buy S*y.

Won't f***ing work, 24's not that good . . . :angryfire

Quality programme, got hooked after buying the 1st series on DVD and then bought the 2nd & 3rd. Series 3 was the best, IMO. Episode where Jack had to kill Chapelle was quality and the last episode with Jack finally showing some emotion was well done.

Don't think I'll like the new series so much as most of the recognisable faces are either dead or in prison and they seemingly haven't been replaced. Early days though with only 2 episodes gone so we'll see.

I'm pretty shaw David Palmer will crop up somewhere in this series... Kim's well and truly gone though :(

I don't trust the new head of CTU - she's made too many "mistakes" already...

Trouble
3rd February 2005, 02:04
That's what I mean about recognisable faces; characters like Tony, Chase, Nina, Chapelle, Wayne etc were all a big part of the programme. All that's left is Jack and er...Chloe!

Now we have a no-mark CTU boss and a no-mark president. They don't even seem like proper characters. I thought Ronnie (guy who took Jack's job) was going to be a main face, but obviously not!

Perhaps it's because the series has just started, but the lack of known characters is worrying me.

CAFC Matt

They had to kill that bloke to make Jack a naughty type person for escaping. He always does something naughty in each series.

As for David, will prob act as an advisor or summit to the new President as the new one has not experienced terrosim before.

Oh and how long yu reckon it will be before the so called PC gang want it banned from our TV's because of it being to familar to real life ie beheadings etc etc????

Good point, obviously walking into an interrogation an shooting a suspect in the leg immediately is merely 'playful'.

Jock

OK series 3 was pretty cool and it was well thought out and while far fetched was still somewhere within the realms of believability.

That has obviously changed. Jack has to hold up a suspect for a couple of mins while he stops for petrol so satelite surveilance can be organised to make sure the guy gets followed to his bosses.

If you had to do the same thing what would you do?

a ) go puncture one of the guys tyres so he has to fix it
b ) throw a stone at the shop window to stop the clerk serving the suspect immediaitely
c ) pull on a ski mask and hold up the shop at gunpoint

Kop
8th February 2005, 15:18
I have to say, I knew he was going to hold the shop up. Just seemed the obvious thing to do. The terrorist could just have stole another car had he slashed his tyres.

I thought it was obvious what he was going to do in holding up the shop. That way he can control how long he holds him up for :)

He also has the opportunity to go face to face with the terrorist, learn a bit about his character and possibly even identify him / connect him to other known hostiles. CTU may also be able to call in a chopper to track the terrorist if satellite coverage fails, with the terrorist assuming they're looking for the "armed robber". Plus, of course, it allows for more disputes between Jack and CTU regarding his methods... wouldn't be surprised if a civillian gets killed here.

I don' thnk CTU will be able to call in a choper because aren't in the belief that Jack is not following him??

Isn't the whole point not letting the guy think he may be compromised? He might believe that some bastid slashing his tyres or someone chucking a half brick at a window may be just one of these things but how often would he be caught in an armed holdup?

Puncturing the guys tyres is clearly the way to go. Thats just bad luck and could happen to anyone.

If I was a terrorist and I got held up by an armed gunman on the way to my bosses hideout you can bet your fecking ass I wouldn't go there afterwards. I'd think that even if it was pure bad luck the CCTV tapes of everything which happened would be scrutinised closely by the police etc. I'd tell them what happened using a pay as you go or cloned phone and melt the fecker into oblivion.

Otoh if I got a puncture I'd think 'feck' and pull out the jack (the one which holds up cars, not the one which holds up petrol stations).

No because she was instructed to follow that guy and needs to relocate a satellite to do that, I think but you may be right.

And Infidel - what?!

Just watched last Sunday's episode, good stuff.

Bit where the Hassan guy gets pulled over and the cops do the registration check reminded me why this programme is so good. You see the cop reaching for his gun before getting the call to let him go and you think Hassan is just going to carry on his journey.

But then a 24 badguy has more intelligence than your average Hollywood movie bad-guy! He saw the same as the viewer and he knew what it meant so he had to kill himself for the cause. Great little twist.

On the downside, the timewasting sub-plots have kicked in. The CTU head's weird daughter. Looks like it could be as annoying as the Chloe (and thank God she's gone) baby storyline from series 3.

Kop
4th March 2005, 16:37
It wasn't Chloe's baby, it was Chase's.

Think something will happen with the Asian Lad who attacked his potential killer with a shovel. Posibly be him who saves the day.
