Thinking of getting one of these with a budget of abot £80 - £100.

Any suggestions on what make I should get and what I should be expecting to get for that in terms of space for tunes and headphones etc?

And are they easy to use??????

Is it an Ipod or just any MP3 player your looking for? They are very easy indeed to use, plug it in to the PC and just drag the tunes across into the window!

Yeah I got an Ipod nano, cost £110, altough only 2GB (500 songs) but very stylish and portable. Could have had the mini for a similar price (which holds more songs) but went for this cos it looks better and can have photos and stuff put on. Also really easy to charge up, and put songs on as pointed out above. Have heard stories of them breaking and their batteries going after a year or 2 though...... but mine has been fine so far.

I want a mini but they've stopped making it because the nano wasnt selling. :(

Dont like the nano it breaks to easily.

Well with a budget of 80-100 squid theres a limit of what you can get. It all depends how many songs you want to fit on your music player. I couldn't recommend an ipod more though as they are so easy to use, even a technophobe would manage with them. I have a 20gb ipod which holds 5000 songs, and personally I wouldn't want any less space than that, I have a lot of music.

So basically expect to get a far smaller storage space if you choose the ipod brand based on your budget, but if like 500 or so songs sounds fine to you then go for it, otherwise I would suggest saving up and getting an ipod with a bigger capacity.

Thats a lie :), the nano replaces the mini.

yes but the nano wasnt selling and they were still making the mini, so they staopped making the mini making people buy the nano.

otherwise I would suggest saving upOr maybe he could just ask the wife for a little more pocket money by maybe doing a couple of other domestic chores instead of playing silly computer games all evening....:)

Yea i think there was a production fault with the first few batches of Nano's, but i think they've got it sorted now.

Thanks for the info so far folks. It isn't for me so one that holds a few hundred tracks would suffice I think.

What about this one for a first one???

What I ain't sure about is batteries. Do they take rechargeable ones and does the one above charge via USB as it seems to indicate???

Specifications
High-speed USB2.0 connection - You got a USB 2.0 port I guess

Up to 15 hours playback from a single alkaline AAA battery - Seems it uses a standard 1.5V battery non rechargeable as an option the up to part as per usual is a bone of contention depending of volume, track skipping, stop starts etc

Charge via USB - Seems it will use a rechargeable 1.2V AAA though manufacturer instructions on which type with regards to it's mAh will be worth looking at....with the rechargeable also the 15 hours playback could not be guaranteed I guess as unlike a standard 1.5v battery that slowly drains away a rechargeable works then just suddenly dies

Thats the trouble - I dunno what I got :dunce: I assumed that all USB's were the same ...........

If it's your old PC that you been using for gawd knows how long chances are it ain't USB 2.0 port if you even got USB ports on the wretched thing.....think you can buy seperate hubs these days that need an independent power supply to up the connectivity with regards to data transfer.....

And on a further note if you use a non rechargeable 1.5v battery and you plug it into the PC hoping to recharge it it's liable to explode.....thus remember what battery is in the gawd dahm thing

 I will bare that in mind! I actually upgraded to a new box last year so the PC has an abundance of USB ports now, even in easy to access places

So do ya reckon that cheapskate one is ok then Baz?

Interesting, since they've only been out for a few months so far.

I have an ipod nano and it is ace. It has a scratch on it but that was my own dumb fault. Other than crashing a couple of times I've not had any problems with it. Charges in no time and lasts about 6 hours on full charge - Perfect for a flight

So do ya reckon that cheapskate one is ok then Baz?With such an abundance of players now available on the market place it really is down to what you really want the thing for....500 songs is more than enough surely (that can be chopped and changed aswell)

Prices have been dropping at an incredible rate over the last years as new technology always has after its initial introduction.....my only concern would be for the guarantee and after sales service from buying over the net....least with a shop you pay that little bit extra but you get to be able to verbally abuse some spotty little toerag to vent yer spleen on when the thing has been in repair for two months as opposed to sending countless Emails or spending hours on the telephone at a premium rate

I said i heard (from a friend in this case) that apple had admitted there might be a problem with the long term life of the battery on all Ipods. Probably rubbish, since i haven't seen the source it came from, but i know there have been some problems with the battery on the mini.

And yeah i have a nano too and think its quality, even if it scratches easily.

There is a good 6gb one on amazon here (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000BFH188/qid=1133372160/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i1_xgl/026-6203467-0737229)

The best deal I think i've seen is this Creative Zen 20gb for 130 quid...here (http://www.komplett.co.uk/k/ki.asp?sku=302205&cks=SER)

My wife has a 30Gb Zen that she uses every day on the train, it conked out after 8 months and Creative sent us a new one by return of post, no questions asked.

It would have been nice had it not broken, but I have nothing but praise for their customer service.
