Japan the latest team to qualify for the World Cup.

South Korea and the Aussies got some work to do.

Asian Group A has a tense finish today. Syria, Uzbekistan and South Korea can all still qualify automatically, with one going into the playoffs, and one being eliminated entirely.

South Korea are in the box seat, and will advance providing they avoid defeat in Uzbekistan, and Syria fail to win in Iran.

Syria will qualify, should they win in Iran, and Korea fail to win. If Syria fail to win, they will be in the playoffs providing South Korea get at least a point.

Uzbekistan can leapfrog both Syria and South Korea, if they beat the latter at home. Should Syria fail to win in Iran, Uzbekistan will need a point to guarantee the playoff place, but could still get there with a defeat depending on GD (currently 2 behind Syria).

Both games kick off at 4pm (UK time) today.

Even with 24 points in 8 matches and 35 Goals scored (more than 4 per game) we aren't yet qualified for the World Cup thanks to Norn Iron with 19 points. Kudos!

Syria so close - get another chance against the Aussies or Saudi Arabia I think.

Is it possible to post teams that would be qualified if everything ended right now? Just to see what the field looks like? Or are there too many playoffs yet to be played?

Some of those groups could be incredible, especially if Italy are indeed a third seed. I guess being second is not ideal, but avoiding France and Spain is possibly better than having a chance of drawing them.

We're nailed on to get Russia, and probably Iceland, but ideally if that's how it is^^^, I'd go for Swiss/Poland, England, Iran, Burkina Faso

I hope Argentina and Chile make it as its a world cup and you want the best teams there but there is a real chance of at least one of them missing out. It would be a travesty really not seeing the likes of Aguero and Messi and Higuain and Sanchez so come on Argentina and Chile pull your fingers out lads and make it.

Don't mind Chile qualifying, good luck to them, was very impressed by them in the last World Cup.
