Been watching this - probably more people in the local pub than actually in the stadium in Doha (an omen for the 2022 World Cup!?)

Dina Asher Smith is a star of the future - a sliver in the 100m in a national record/personal best time at the age of 23.

Only beaten by a true legend of the event in Fraser Pryce.

They had a mixed 4x400m relay which like in swimming seems to be the vogue these days.

Apparently the heat has played a part in the number of people attending. It also affected the marathon the other day because despite it being ran at midnight over there, a massive number of runners failed to finish.

Doesn't seem to be the best place for sporting events.......

Probably true and I doubt athletics is that popular there - outside Europe and America/some parts of Africa it might be a low profile sport.

Least football is more likely to attract greater interest (the big games anyway) and not on for as long.

I guess people compare it to London 2012 where people went for the occasion I suspect.

Money seems to have talked - bit like with the World Cup.

Beth Dobbin into the semi finals. Still seems surreal seeing one of my friends sisters doing so well!

Like the world cup, shouldn't even be held there.

Utter [email protected] decision to give Qatar the games. Lots of money swapped hands no doubt.

Disheartening when athletes who have trained for years to get a medal look up and see no f*cker there.

Doha is by far the worst city I've ever visited, so I don't blame people for staying away.

Only got good crowds the other day because a load of African long distance runners were in action .

Few local kids with flags .

GB had a couple of 4th places .

Without the likes of Farah the medal haul is pretty light .

Well Asher Smith gets Britain's 1st ever sprint gold medal .

Guess that is good news for next year's Olympics.

Johnson just making an interesting point about junior athletes not performing at senior level......Gaby Logan cuts him clean off jabbering about Asher Smith's mum in a red spotted dress.

    ****ing excruciating.....

Who'd have thought it eh? Holding major sporting events in the middle of what's basically a desert with a very small local population who have little interest in sport isn't actually a good idea? Nobody saw these empty seats or the problems with the heat coming did they?

Certainly not those who've had their already bulging pockets lined that little bit more

Seb Coe has complained about the BBC criticising the event and lack of crowds ..

Seb Coe hits out at BBC and Gabby Logan over Doha coverage

He ought to be a bit careful otherwise the Beeb will dump their coverage which certainly promotes athletics well generally.

Last thing he'll want is Athletics going behind a pay wall losing even more supporters.

Don't accept a load of brown envelopes stuffed with cash to host your event in a completely unsuitable country with an unsuitable climate that's absolutely miles away from the core fanbases of your sport, and you won't get criticised. Simple.

Don't bite the hand that feeds you. The BBC have paid good money for the rights so they are entitled to voice their displeasure at no bugger being there.

And quite frankly they wouldn't be doing their job not reporting the facts!

Its like in football when they say its a great atmosphere/quiet as a library.

A lack of crowds is just one of many issues off the track in athletics like in many sports.

Pb in the javlin and only the 800 left, which she is far stronger than thiem in. Looking good unless she gets an injury. Chuffed to bits for her. All the potential in the world but form/nerves always seem to hurt her. She needs this tbh and I think she’ll go from strength to strength if she gets this title
