Never know where to put stuff about results so let's get this going

Looks like as expected it's Plymouth, ourselves, Luton and Portsmouth battling for the autos along with Carlisle who are looking strong in 3rd

We narrowed the gap to plymouth yesterday after their draw with Portsmouth and our 3 points against Colchester. Ours wasn't a great game but still got the 3 points and our keeper Marko Marosi continues to improve. Bad news on the injury front though.. Andy Williams is out for 8-10 weeks which is a huge blow for us

I look forward to being an active part of this thread until mid to late April when I will depart for the playoff thread.

    Carlisle are doing ok

1-0 up v Hartlepool then a stupid sending off for us let them into the game

    They equalise

    We retake the lead

    They equalise again

We retake the lead and keep it

All 3 of our goals were well crafted

    Over 7k at Brunton Park

I would put Plymouth Portsmouth and Donny as the auto teams to go up

Luton Town will be up there and should be up there

A long way to go its still early days

Fixtures for the top 5 this weekend:

    Blackpool v Rovers
    Luton v Mansfield
    Newport v Plymouth
    Portsmouth v Notts County
    Stevenage v Carlisle

A couple of potential banana skins in there but I think all 5 teams will most likely come away with the 3 points. Mansfield have been hard to beat on the road so they could hold Luton to a stalemate, while Newport could have the usual upturn in form with a new manager in charge but its hard to see past a Plymouth win

Clearly still early but Plymouth with their form and confidence could stretch away a bit.

But then weren't they top last season?

You would have to say the three favourites for Automatic promotion have to be Plymouth, Doncaster and Portsmouth. All 3 have good crowds and budgets for this level. Portsmouth and Paul Cook are under the most pressure to get promoted, that said, i do think they will go up this season automatically alongside Plymouth (who are already building a decent lead) and Donny.

As for the 4th promoted team though, anyones guess really, i dont see Carlisle going up automatically, yet they should make the playoffs, Notts County under Sheridan could be there or thereabouts, as should Crewe. If Grimsby can find a good appointment to replace Hurst, they should be in the reckoning too. Accrington lost players over the summer but still have John Coleman and are up and around the playoffs. Crawley recruited an experienced coach in Dermot Drunmy and brought in a lot of players over the summer. They are currently top half and could be an outside bet for promotion.

The 4th promotion spot via the playoffs will be so difficult to call imo, there are probably even more contenders alongside the ones i have mentioned above.

Argyle could still screw it up just like we did last season but even the most pessimistic like myself find it hard to see us repeating it. I wouldn't say man for man we are better then last season but we have a larger squad and the goals are coming from everywhere which is good rather then last season we relied on Graham Carey too much. I'll still call it in February and I can see the top 3 jockeying spots fairly frequently

Given we're due to play Plymouth, Carlisle, Portsmouth and Doncaster between now and Christmas, I suspect we'll know a lot more about our prospects by then than we do now. If we're to have any chance of getting into the playoff mix, we have to sort our home form out.

Don't write us off just yet
    and please don't put a run together:D

If we can get to January and still be in the top 3 I'll be very happy. We're currently without our main goal threat in Williams until December. McSheffrey is out till February time too. Fortunately Alcock should be back this weekend for his first game of the season and he's our best defender. We really need another striker in January so we have enough depth and maybe a left back too.

Great win for us yesterday after playing so poorly

Hopefully we can leapfrog Carlisle and start to hunt plymouth down, although they are running away with it slightly!

Title is pretty much Plymouth's already.

We've picked up 10 points from 5 below-par performances - not sure whether that's a good or bad thing. Considering the ridiculous injury problems we've had I am fairly happy with our position.

I would take 2nd or 3rd place all day long. We just want to get back up. Hopefully when we get Williams back we will start to win some games more comfortably again. We also need to learn to defend as we are relying on outscoring teams far too much.
