No one else having a problem with racism, especially so frequently, was the issue. The fact that I said the joke was out of order and then the chat exploded with even more brainless racist jokes about black people was incredibly poor form. Justifying racism because it was a joke, imo, is immoral and stupid.
I didn't do anything wrong tbf
Token is a joke about under representation. The fact you can't see that is telling.
Fair enough, I'm off to go watch Django Unchained x
In just stirring Minty. I still love you x
Some very fair points there. I didn't stand by it and I did DM you and apologized as soon as I realized I had offended you in fairness.
At the end of the day though it's a lads groupchat and that's the sort of shit that happens in them not gonna apologize for my dark sense of humour anymore. You do you anyway never wanted to fall out over a joke but such is life.
There's a difference between a dark sense of humour and blatant racism.
Minty isn’t going to think you’re more tolerant because you’re using the American spelling of apologise.
That's not being racist, it's making fun of American Television's awful and lazy attempts at promoting racial diversity by including pointless characters whose only defining trait is they are not white.
So because you didn't find it funny it's racism? That is your subjective opinion of course so hats also fair but not completely accurate because I'm not racist I just went for a joke and it missed the mark.
No, it's racism because it's racism, using outdated slurs like 'darkies' and continual use of "n***er" (not just from you).
Yeah. It’s disgraceful mate. Come back and join us. Joga made us repent our sins. We’ve been cleansed.
It's a racist joke yes. I know some good paedophile jokes too doesn't mean I'm a nonce. I get it now though you're the type of guy who'll go to a comedy show and walk out when they hear a joke they don't like lmao grow up please mate.
It was nothing more than an outdated racist slur, rather than a joke. You're not seriously trying to conflate your racist remarks (targeting a victim) with jokes about paedophiles (targeting a perpetrator) are you? The sweet irony of you telling anyone to grow up.
Already been said but it depends on context a lot of the time both in terms of the joke itself and the audience.
There are jokes I'd say to people my age or a similar mindset that I wouldn't in front of an older person for example. The same way as I won't say 'c*nt' in front of my mother but have no problem saying it among friends. The rules are situational.
Regardless of the ethical question of whether you SHOULD tell a particular joke though, I draw the line at legal penalties for telling jokes. I don't think the police should be spending time investigating the content of a joke regardless of its author or target.
An example would be Jo Brand questioning why you would throw a milkshake at a politician when you could throw battery acid instead.
It's funny IMO. It's not incitement to violence and it wouldn't be if the target had been someone more popular than Farage either. That said how funny a joke is does seem to have a lot to do with who the butt of a joke is. You can say things about Farage for example that you can't say about -whoever- even if the joke is identical.
Honestly mate you've overreacted. Have a good Christmas see you down the road maybe x
I haven't. All I did was say I found your joke out of order, then left a group chat because I wasn't a fan of the barrage of racist comments that followed. I'm totally fine with that as I don't find racism acceptable. As I said to those who messaged me privately, I've got better things to spend my time on than read racist comment after racist comment. I had let it go until your snide joke about racist comments earlier. Tbh I suspect you didn't even find your own joke very funny, but whatever.
Ok but you completely ignored my message I sent straight after you left and haven't aknowledged me until today where you told me to **** off out of nowhere. I'll be honest I didn't find it funny what I said I was just going for shock value hence why I immediately apologized. Anyway I'm done arguing about it you've made your feelings clear we have very different senses of humour I'll take that into consideration if we ever interact again.
