51 titles according to Wikipedia. Rangers have 54.

Aberdeen, Hearts, Hibs all have 4.

Nobody outside Rangers or Celtic have won the Scottish League since 1985 I believe.

Both Rangers and Celtic have won 9 in a row, with Celtic achieving it twice. Though arguably Celtic of 60's and Rangers in 80/90's was more difficult given constant presence of the other.

In the 90's we were signing players for 200k and finishing third and fourth while a finacially doped Rangers were signing Laudrup and Gazza etc.

I remember Richard Gough was quoted as saying that when both teams lined up in the tunnel for most of those years, he used to look at Paul McStay and then look at the guys behind him and almost feel sorry for him. Gough would be backed up by the sort of talent you mention.

We never stood a chance for at least the first 7 years and worked wonders to give them a challenge in the last two seasons given what they had to build on and the fact that they were still overspending.

Yeah for the first seven of Rangers' nine in a row, Celtic weren't there biggest competition for the title, never finishing any higher than third place.

Aberdeen were the last side outside the Old Firm to win the title in '85, under Sir Alex.

Yeah I love looking in to the history of stuff like this. Like during Celtics 9 in a row Rangers tailed off finishing 4th, 3rd and 3rd in three of the last four seasons. You always assume its Celtic v Rangers but obviously that isn't always the case.

Like Celtic had won one title in twenty seasons before winning 9 in a row, and finished 8th the season before the first of nine. Makes the job Jock Stein did even more remarkable really.

The fact that in 1964/65 Celtic were 8th, Rangers 5th and Kilmarnock won the league :eeek

How close the first three titles were too.

One of the things I didn't realise looking at Rangers 9 in a row was how Scottish league flitted between 2 pts and 3 pts for a win.

Is it right that it was 2 pts for a win upto 1992, then 3 pts for a win for two seasons before reverting back to 2 pts for a win for a season?

I think you are right with the year it changed to 3pts for a win, but I don't recall it changing back to 2pts at any time since.

Yeah ignore me think it was adopted in 94. Rangers 91/92 and 92/93 seasons threw me as they had such high points.

I was looking at the 30 wins seasons. How close was 2003 FFS.

If you’re interested in a bit of history, 1905-1910.

“One of the most remarkable sides in Celtic’s history is the one that won six consecutive championships between 1904-05 and 1909-10. The League recognised this triumph by the presentation of a shield to Celtic.”
