Could Mikel Arteta be the new Sir Alex?

Arteta is still a new manager, but let's face it, he hasn't started well! Arsenal are 3 above the relegation zone in 15th and are only the 5th best team in London. They haven't won a league game since the 1st November (W0,D1,L4) and have lost their last 4 at home, which is their worst losing home run since the 50's.

Despite this, it isn't that surprising to see some of the comments in this thread, where few are criticising Arteta. His reputation still seems to be intact and people within the game still think he is going to be a very good manager. If he lost the Arsenal job, I think there would be lots of clubs who would happily snap him up if they needed a new guy!

If he sinks much more then surely his position is in doubt, but IMHO, if he doesn't sink further down the league, he could keep his job and it may turn out to be a good decision by Arsenal in the long run!

Why the mention of Sir Alex? It's well documented that he almost lost his job at Manure, after a poor start. He went on to do reasonably well!

If they can just tweak things a little in January, to be sure to avoid relegation, before looking to make big changes next season and giving him a chance with HIS players, I think he could go on to be a successful manager at Arsenal! Champions? Well, that would take something special. But I could see him getting them back into the Champions League

BTW, I've never really liked Arsenal and love winding up my friend Chris who supports them, so I'd quite like to see them go down :bye

He also won 2 European trophies and 3 League titles with Aberdeen before coming to Old Trafford, and even now, 35 years later nobody else has won the Scottish League apart from Celtic and Rangers. Arteta's track record is he was an assistant.

I'm not suggesting so. My mention of Sir Alex was that he almost got sacked and got kept on, while my question is should Arsenal do the same with Arteta.

I am not actually comparing them as managers, where Sir Alex is right up there in Premier League terms, probably only second to Klopp

What job was that? His first job was at East Stirlingshire and he wasn't sacked. His dismissal from St Mirren later was nothing to do with results on the pitch, and they have regretted it ever since.

I think he has plenty of time and it hasn't really worked that well, going out of the Europa league and coming 10th in the table is not good, we looked clueless in many games and lack any form of drive. We like Spurs need to find a good manager, sad to say we are both in that little rutt that needs addressing very soon.

I'd be surprised if Arteta lasts until the New Year after watching the Brentford game.

They looked abysmal, and he left his top forwards out of the starting 11?

Needs to be able to make his own signings, I don't believe for one second signing Ben White for £50 million was his own doing.

Managers don’t tend to these days unless it’s one of the top ones maybe like Klopp or Pep.

Clubs seem to have Directors of football who pick and sign players then the manager has to work with them .

Bit like at Everton - would Benitez really want Andros Townsend and Gray ?

In the case of Benitez then maybe as he likes pacy players/winger sort of players and had Townsend at Newcastle and then tried to resign him numerous times after he moved to Palace.
