The more I look at our batting line up the more I think we’ll struggle. It seems we’ve learned nothing from the eighteen previous months or so and we’ll go into the first Ashes test with almost the same failures. Joe Root should be saying that whatever the **** happens I’m batting at four..

Yep if Root fails I worry... Can't see us getting 400+ on many occasions

I can’t see us getting 150 on some occasions. Whatever happens we must not lose at Edgbaston because the Aussies always do well at Lords and if we go 2-0 down it’s all over..

Burns Roy Root Denly Buttler Stokes Bairstow Mo Woakes Broad Anderson

Confirmed for the first game, probably the right team, gives Archer a bit of time to get completely ready, the batting doesn't look great but it never was going to. As long as the ball does a bit, the bowlers should cause a lot of problems, only worry is if the pace bowlers are a little bit too samey. Think Australia are slightly stronger than us but the fact it's at Edgbaston should turn it back in our favour.

I would have probably opened with Denly and had Roy drop down to 4 instead of the way they've gone. I suppose they're hoping that Roy can knock them off their game a few times and get us away to a flier.

    Only time will tell.

    Absolutely buzzing though, can't wait!

This is what I would have done tbh, Denly has spend his whole career in the top 3 yet Roy bats at 5 for Surrey, makes no sense to me.

Yeah I know that our batting looks crap, but remember, the Aussies can't play the swinging ball so it's fine.

I agree with the comments here. I would've definitely pushed Roy down to 4 and opened with Denly and Burns.

I'm worried about the standard of batting overall to be honest. I can see some pretty low scores for both sides and it wouldn't surprise me to see both sides 30/3 on a regular basis.

Right then, it’s the eve of the Ashes and before a ball is bowled does anyone fancy predicting the outcome of the series?

Personally, I think our batting is too weak. Yes, theirs is t exactly a powerhouse either and the bowling is fairly even given that we should be able to swing the ball better, but I think we’ve relied too heavily on our middle order of the last couple of years and this time it won’t work.

3-1 Australia. Man of the series; Steve Smith

Can’t see any draws unless rain is about..

Will go with heart 3-2 England but fear the Aus bowling attacking tbh (against our top order).

Also don’t rate Mo hope he proves me wrong!

I do think their batting is better than ours and their top 4 is actually very decent but home advantage should help us enough to win 3-2.

    Decent enough first hour.

If we can get smith soonish I’ll be confident can get them under 250. Looks a decent pitch if you can get in!

Very promising so far, looks like Smith may well run out of partners, hope Jimmy's ok.

That partnership was annoying but not the first time a number 9/10 has stalled our progress .

And Smith is their world class batsmen ofcourse .

Good day overall - hopefully our batsmen can stay strong !

More pressure on them though then there might have been when the Aussies on 125-8.

Annoying that the cheating bastard Smith has kept Australia well in the game. If it had been England he and the other two played for, I firmly believe we wouldn't be picking them! Australia have no such scruples it seems?:hmmm
