Hopefully providing assists to our own forwards rather than the opposition's.

Take out Rice for Grealish against the two bob countries like Scotland. I wanted to back Pope but he's so unconvincing with the ball at his feet, as long as he's in form I think Pickford offers more.

Pope much better keep than Pickford who is like a cat on a hot tin roof.

Only need 1 defensive mid. Henderson as backup, even though I'm not sure he's mobile enough, at least he's a leader.

At international level you have to be able to keep the ball and unlock defences. Hence we absolutely need to play Grealish, Mount, Foden, Sterling and Kane. Out of those the one I'd be most liable to drop is actually Kane. Reason being he's been dropping far too deep. At least with someone like Calvert-Lewin you know he'll be in and around the box when a ball comes in - not hanging around midfield like Kane.

I dunno about the defence but I'd like to see this:

    Rice/Henderson
    Foden ------- Grealish
    Sancho Kane Sterling

Inspired by Pep's formation at City when he had Silva and De Bruyne as #8s. I see absolutely no reason why Foden and Grealish can't play those roles :shrug

We need to start recognizing our own quality and play with bravery. We've got some great footballers who know how to keep a football. The reason why we don't do it is because we have a pussy as the manager who wants to play on the counter all the time.

I think he's referring to Rice and Henderson as both are injured.

I'm referring to our squad for the Euros. Both will be fit by then.

I agree. There's a lot of attacking talent in the squad and you're probably looking at taking some average defenders and leaving some good attacking players at home.

I've looked at options for a 23 man squad and some of the players that won't be in that squad is pretty damning.

    3 keepers? (Pickford, Pope, Henderson)
4 full backs? (Walker, TAA, Shaw, Chilwell)
    4 CB's? (Stones, Maguire, +2)
    2 DM's (Rice, Henderson).
    Kane

You leave yourself with then just 9 from the rest
    Calvert-Lewin, Bamford, Watkins, Ings
    Mount, Grealish, Maddison, Bellingham
Foden, Sancho, Sterling, Rashford, Saka, Lingard, Greenwood

Plus the likes of Winks, Phillips and anyone else I've forgotten.

There's a lot of talent that won't be going to the Euros and it might mean Southgate having to make a few brave decisions to leave us short defensively. Phillips has been a regular among recent squads but if you take 3 DM's you're leaving someone at home. If you take more CB's or FB's you're leaving an attacking option at home.

With England only playing with one striker I don't think you can take any more than 1 from DCL, Bamford, Watkins or Ings.

You've not even listed Dier & Trippier who are his favourites so that's another two spots gone.

I put +2 CB to be fair. It wouldn't surprise me if Dier was one of the four. I think Maguire and Stones are the only guarantees at this stage.

Trippier may well go too but I think if that is the case it'll be because he's taking too many full-backs.

Well barring a series of injuries Maddison has no chance now. And even if Grealish, Foden and Mount all got injured I think Southgate would play 343 and so there's no place for him anyway.

Interestingly my autocorrect changed Grealish to Freakish and Foden to Golden....

Saka’s versatility will get him on the plane. He can play left-back, left-wing, right-wing, #10, #8

Isn't Grealish pretty ineffective playing centrally? Let alone as a CM instead of a CAM?

I reckon he picks this. Where there's any doubt over positions, he'll side with his favourites.

    Pickford
    Pope
    Henderson

    Maguire
    Stones
    Dier
    Mings
    Walker
    R. James
    Trippier
    Shaw
    Chilwell

    Phillips
    Rice
    Henderson
    Ward-Prowse
    Foden
    Mount

    Kane
    Calvert-Lewin
    Rashford
    Sterling
    Lingard
