Never nice to see a huge talent like Van Dijk get an injury like that. Some players don’t come back the same player, f*ck Pickford.

Well, the decision to not bring a centre half in could really be called into question now. Imagine if van Dijk is out for the season (or near enough) then you'd anticipate a big move for someone in January.

Couldn't possibly try to get by the whole season with just Gomez and Matip (100% going to have another lay off this season) as the only ones available.

When the whole nation/continent can hear the cries after some VAR controversy: sign of a declining champion.

Well that was...entertaining. A great game to watch.

Van Dijk's absence will have a huge impact on Liverpool, truly catastrophic in terms of their title challenge. We'll have to wait for confirmation to see just how bad it is but early signs suggest a long time out.

    VAR is so 2020.

The vvd incident is the equivalent of Agatha Christie walking into the crime scene and finding the stolen loot but ignoring the murder victim.

If it is as bad as feared, what with Alisson out a few more weeks, and EVARton thugs maiming another important player in Thiago, all Liverpool can do is hang on in there, like Fergie did until the turn of the year; then reassess and go from there. The reason I say that is because no one looks as if they'll run away with it this year so far.

This is true - Everton have looked the best team in the league so far but history suggests they won't keep it up.

Then again, history suggested Leicester wouldn't win the league.

That VAR decision was not only a disgrace to Liverpool, but to football as a whole.

If Mane hadn't walked back from an offside position and had run back onside before he got the ball, there wouldn't have been a problem.
Pickford should have been sent off even though VVD was offside.

What has this game come to when this can be called offside, the heel of Calvert Lewin is clearly over the red line and the vertical line is coming up to the elbow area on Van Dijk, is it not supposed to be the top of the shoulder? either way he's still onside.

I think this one was worse than the Mane one if that's even possible  Whoever was in the VAR room yesterday should be made to explain their decisions.

It simply wasn’t offside, which is clear enough by the VAR image, so there shouldn’t have been a problem regardless. The only part of Mane’s body that could have possibly been offside is his elbow, which is irrelevant as you cannot score with your elbow.

I think it’s terrible for the sport to disallow goals for such things, even the ones that are marginally offside but require you to stare in concentration for ten seconds to discern it. It’s just so unnecessary, and the benefit of the doubt ought to be given to the attacker. No-one would have complained had the Henderson goal been allowed.

I've not seen or spoken to a single person who believes either were offside. And that includes blueshite like the wife and various members of my family/friends.

Even Toddy and that teenage Everton fan on here (can't recall his name) know it deep down.

As said though, I'm not claiming any particular Liverpool hardship here, other than that thug cnut Pickford not being punished and being robbed of the additional 2 points we should have had and thoroughly deserved. But the sheer ludicrousness of the VAR decisions yesterday were no worse than we have seen in numerous other matches for numerous other teams. The system is a cancer to the game and needs removing as soon as possible.

at least richarilson had the manners to apologise.

im sure his manager read him the riots act mind but still.

its a contact sport so stuff happens. it was all a bit juvenile yesterday with windup on robertson etc etc plus low rent stuff deliberately goading site users here with vvd injury.

irrespective of any of thest an actual game of football went on and in the cold light of day theres an analysis of performance on both side thats not happened.

I felt we started brightly but dropped off and were as wasteful as usual. the biggest on imo was mane missing target when he was put in and could have taken a touch and finished.

Christ almighty. Liverpool won the league off the back of VAR and we didn't hear a peep. Now there's a marginal call which was judged correctly by VAR and all we hear is moan, moan, moan!

The winning goal was offside by today’s metrics or lack of, but the penalty/Pickford VVD incident looked onside. I think VAR officials took the easy way out, would be quite a precedent to set if we go back and look at things like that. But that’s the issue with VAR, when it’s only brought in for certain aspects of game, and isn’t universal, it’ll never be wholly legitimate.
