Imagine giving it to Gavin McCann then Baldwin looking our fans in the eyes and genuinely telling us that we are being ambitious

JFH was the one the Club encouraged to apply for the job, which is what I said on Saturday. Reading between the lines, he couldn’t make the first interview so they’ve left the process open for him.

Seems McCann, McCall and Irvine were 3 definitely on the shortlist. + JFH and 2 more.

Looks like it’s going to be Grant McCann then.

Not too happy with that tbh. Would’ve much preferred McCall.

Replacing one deeply flawed former Peterborough manager with another deeply flawed former Peterborough manager with nowhere near as much experience. Not the most inspiring.

Shocking. I hate to write someone off before they've even been announced but jesus what an underwhelming, cheap, desperate appointment. Seriously out of 170 applicants Grant McCann is the best we can muster up ?

All the excitement I had when Fergie got sacked has been completely sapped if I'm honest

After the excitement of Ferguson going and thinking we'd have the opportunity to appoint a good manager, I'm disappointed.

    Oh well.

Now the dust has settled I’m feeling better about the appointment of McCann.

Hope he has learnt from his mistakes at Peterborough and can fulfil his potential.

Any Posh fans give us any more details of what he’s all about?

Im still bitterley disappointed tbh. He had money to spend at peterbrough and sent them backwards. Some on their forums said he was close to being as bad as Graham Westley ...

You get idiots with any club and those might be theirs.

I wouldn't be overly disappointed. He was nowhere near as bad as Westley. Only thing I would say is that he can lack a plan B. He was insistent on us playing the diamond formation and in the end it proved his downfall as the opposition found us out.

In terms of money, he had no more and no less than any of the other managers we've had since MacAnthony took over the club.

I’d imagine that’s more than what we spend though, fair enough. I’m worried about the lack of plan b, it stinks of dickovs appointment to me

McCann has mentioned about having a plan B in his interviews, so may have learnt. The issue with Dickov was he had a few years at Oldham and wasn't learning from his mistakes there and definitely didn't with us. McCann hopefully isn't ignorant.

We've got an alright budget anyway and McCann mentions he prefer coaching than spending loads of money on players.

I guess we just have to wait and see...

I had mixed views about Ferguson, but I do believe he had some good contacts and got us Sam Johnstone on loan from Man Utd now worth £6.5m. I don't see McCann having the same contacts. He has stated that to get near the top of league one we need a good start. If we are to have a good start then we need some very good signing very soon to give the new players a chance to fit in. So far we have nothing.

As you say, DO, we can only wait and see, but I don't feel confident we will get off to a good start (however we define it).

We keep hearing about the budget. Some say it is inadequate and that's why Fergie left, others say we have a good competitive budget, but either way we have dropped several players and signed no-one. We just have to keep being patient, even if that means we start the season with one new signing. We had problems at the Xmas window with injuries and shortage of players, so we need to see several new players in soon.

That was Dickov, who got us Johnstone.

Thanks for correcting me. So that's one less thing I can credit to Ferguson. Maybe Dickov wasn't so bad after all when he got us a great goalie on loan (lol). We certainly can't afford Johnstone now.

From what I keep reading McCann is looking to sign as many players as he can from Peterborough (a team that also can't get out of league one). I was hoping we would get better players than ones released by Peterborough. I am sure we will all be closely following the transfer list and making our own judgements. I, for one, desperately want an exciting season.

We’ve got a dreadful budget. All looking obvious now.
