To be fair I didn't do particularly well on FIFA 17 either compared to earlier versions where I won the Div 1 title a few times. This is a whole new kettle of fish though.

I almost think I have to forget the passing game altogether; it seems to be about skill moves and rapid breaks or bust.

Yes I agree. It's a shame as I enjoy passing games and working an opening but I just get rinsed by the teams who just stick Musa and Josh King up top and keep one-twoing it until they're through and walking it in

What formation/instructions do you all use? ATM, I'm using narrow diamond - 4-1-2-1-2 (2)

FB - Stay back on attack
CB - Stay back on attack
DM - Stay back on attack - conservative
LCM - Normal attack - edge of box, conservative tackling
RCM - Stay back on attack - conservative
AM - Stay forward, aggressive, get in box
STR - Get in behind, aggressive, Press back line
STL - False9, aggressive, press back line

Defensively, it's actually quite sound, as long as you don't start sprinting to tackle. Attacking wise, creating chances but I can't put them away. Using Berardi as my CAM, even though he is a RW. He's doing quite well in there. Pace, finishing, strength and can pass. Liking him alot. Using Eder as my pacy right striker. He is a beast! Also experimenting with Callejon as an alternative right striker. Scores a few and looking dangerous. Icardi is my left striker and that is who I am having problems with. Misses so many chances, as soon as he gets the ball. he is tackled straight away.

My level is professional on offline games, but been experimenting with World class and legendery. Yesterday and today, played all my squad battles with legendery. Lost all 8 games, though the majority with last minute equalisers then losing out on penalties. Frustrating as hell!!!

What are the points like on a defeat on the higher levels?

Depending on by how big the loss is, or how you lose, I've been getting between 300-500 so not too bad.

I mostly play the 4-2 you're meant to be a striker get out of the ****ing centre circle, and why do I have a CB on the wing formation.

Sometimes 442(2) but mostly one of the two 4231 formations, narrow or wide depends on mood. Defensively and for playing the ball around they're great, but as I say I do have issues creating space up front.

    Begovic

    Baines
    Reid
    Jones
    Clyne

    Wanyama
    Gueye

    NKoudu

If you can't beat them, join them.

Changed to a premier league side now with diamond.

    Schmeical

    Rose
    Bailly
    Keane
    Zappacosta

    Gueye

    Son
    Bernardo Silva

    Sigurdsson

    Vardy
    Rashford

Got around 35k to spend too so I may upgrade Sigurdsson to Firmino.

I too switched to the diamond, and just won three on the bounce after dominating the match.

    Begovic

    Baines
    Reid
    Jones
    Clyne

    Gueye

    Nkoudu
    Mahrez

    Wijnaldum

    Batshuayi
    Defoe

Need to improve the CB pairing a little, and probably upgrade Defoe, but generally quite happy so far.

Yeah the diamond is the best formation I've tried so far. Have to have a good DM though.

Don’t know how people can use the wide diamond formation. It offers little defensive protection and the midfield gets overran so easily. Narrow diamond is the best formation imo. The different lines in midfield makes it so much easier to defend, so I can work back with the CAM or two CMs before I step out with by CDM or a CB.

On defending itself, I find it easier to stand off players instead of going into tackle. Let them try to knock it past you and I find that I come away with the ball.

Echo what’s been said about the possession though. Online I have a lot but struggle to break teams down whereas they just ping a few passes and are in my half with what seems like no one defending. Think I’ll scrap playing offline and focus on seasons to see if a can change it. Offline means keeping possession and waiting for a chance but online favours directness. I’ve only really won games due to being a good finisher, I find that I take most of the few chances I take.

Does anyone else get fouled and cpu gets away with it but if you barge they get a freekick/penalty?

Just played a match on professional level on squad battles. Was losing 4-1 so switched to 3-4-3. Managed to draw 4-4 after 90mins, went 5-4 up in extra time and lost 6-5. Epic match. Got around 700points for that. Tempting to start next match with 3-4-3 to see how it goes. Found so much space in attack.

    Referees definitely favour CPU teams.

I used to religiously use the 3-4-2-1, but it's mostly effective when you sweat the living shit out of it, go ultra defensive counter attack with pace out wide and two holding defenders in the middle.

Not really a massive fan of sweat teams, but it looks as though they may be back in force this year.

Not a fan of sweat teams either. Getting frustrating with the Italy / Italian team, though Koulibaly is an absolute monster in defence. Want an EPL team, but players are way too expensive. Might try French as should hopefully be a little cheaper. Still keeping 4-1-2-1-2 narrow as some nice passing positions from players, though when I come across 3 CM, I struggle.

Yep noticed that little nudges and niggly fouls which would be a fk on Fifa 17 are now just play on.
