Greeting from an American. I recently traveled to Paris and it sort of invigorated my love for soccer again. 5 or so years ago my best friend got me into the game and he is a big Tottenham fan, and so I started supporting Tottenham. My friend moved away and I stopped following soccer for 5 or so years and a lot has changed in the league. Recently I've been talking with him about the bpl and I figured, maybe I should find a team to support on my own (not Tottenham).
Anyways, my local team is the Chicago Fire, and the MLS is crap, so hence, I turn to the BPL because it is the most interesting league in Europe. I'd like a team who has great fan support (not fake supporters like many United, City, Chelsea tend to have that just hop on the bandwagon). I am a Cubs fan so I can handle a few bad seasons, so long as the club I support isn't in much risk of relegation. Your thoughts?

Harchester United. Decent amount of trophies without being a fake club.

It's not called "The Major League Soccer." It's called MLS, bud.

Chicago Fire are crap, MLS is not. The atmosphere and roadtrips are an absolute blast. Have you taken part? Chicago has a respectable away following. Some awsome supporters who make the long trip. As opposed to you who will waddle to your couch and plunk your ass down to watch Chelsea on television. Come on, man!

    Amazing football? No. Crap? No.

A few?!?!? It was over a hundred years!

Support your local team first for the love of god, man. Then a club from another country might pick youu. And you can follow them during the off season. A good friend of mine was from Hanley, and I can confirm he had 5 fingers. Miserable ****er. He got me into Stoke because he wouldn't stop blathering about them. He also had a wonky eye and the first time I met him he told me to ****off and go home I'm useless. Now I follow Stoke in my spare time. I still hold it against h im. If they won the league would I be happy? Sure. If Toronto won the league I'd burst into tears and shit myself. I've been known to do that for no apparent reason, aswell. Something tells me you're going for a club in the top 5. ;)

If my local team consisted of one player who was 5 years old without a head, tap dancing around the field, I would support that first.

Whoops. Welcome to the board. :)

God damnit I've worked myself into a god damn temper tantrum. Diazepam needed, pronto.

Haha didn't mean to get you all worked up. To address your first point, I agree, it isn't fair of me to write off MLS and Chicago Fire just because i think its crap compared to European football. I have never taken part and gone to a football game in my life. I've always been more of an american football and baseball fan, and I'm just getting back into the soccer/football scene. I am offended that you think I would like Chelsea, I am not looking to become a bandwagon here or anything. :P

The reason why I prefer to follow the Premier League is because it just seems so much deeper and there's more at stake every year with relegations and a goal of European football in mind.

    Thanks for the advice!

I did some deep breathing exercises and I'm a bit more calm now.

Give Chicago a chance. There's nothing like it. The whole community aspect of it.... it cannot be beat by watching games on tv.

    Come on! :P

Haha I'll give them a chance. How is the community of MLS compared to the Premier League? Are people just as riled up about MLS as they are European football?

Hard to say. Yes and no. Christ, MLS started in 1996. lol. Hardly any trouble, if thats what you mean. Some cities I wouldn't wear away colors. But mostly, unless it's a rivalry, it's pretty laid back and you won't get into trouble unless you look for it. But passionate? Oh f*ck yes.

I wouldn't talk to a Impact supporter, mind you. Wannabe hooligans.

I met some supporters from Section 8 years ago and they were decent. I like shooting the sh*t with away supporters. Long trips and always friendly.

Like I said, considering the league only started in 1996, there are some hardcore supporters.

Supporters traveling from New York for a game in California? Vancouver to Toronto? That's dedication.

As riled up as Europe? Nope. But the atmosphere can get intense.

Just don't burn down your stadium, ffs lol.

Yeah I'm taking a look at section 8 and it looks pretty cool. Maybe I'll have to go to a game this summer

Try Nottingham Forest @cubesocks. Massive English club with a massive history.

    Looking at your required criteria:

    1. Do we have fake supporters? - No (box ticked)
    2. Do we have bandwagoners? - No (box ticked)
    3. Do we have a few bad seasons (that you admit you can handle)? - Yes (box ticked)
    4. Are we at risk of relegation from the Premier League? - No (box ticked)

We are perfect for you ;)

    Not yet mate ;)

My bro' actually lives in Columbus Ohio (moved out there in 1999), a bit of a Crew fan but flying the Forest flag in the USA. Although he is a big American Football fan now... I can't believe the attendances you get for College American football!... or rugby as we call it :whistle

That's pretty cool, Columbus Crew are somewhat rivals to Chicago Fire. And yeah, college football games get massive turnouts. I think it's really interesting how European football segregates it's fans based on which team they support. In America, all fans are just sold general admission.

Yeah it seems like football fans get way more into it. I think it would create a much better atmosphere and I wish we had here in the states

If you'd ever been to Burnley on a Wednesday night you wouldn't wish it.
