It's ridiculous that I'm getting excited about what has to be the least appealing opening game in World Cup history! Just shows how much I love the tournament. I would laugh so much if the Saudis got a draw or win.

As for the other game, I'm gutted for Salah and Egypt that he will miss this one. I think they would have had a chance with him playing, but not now. Comfortable Uruguay win and I'm sure they will top the group.

Same really looking forward to the tournament starting even though the opening game is quite horrific

With a poor host nation team, there was always a chance of this. I look forward to Qatar v New Zealand in 2022...

Usually I’d be rooting for the underdogs, but I don’t like Saudi Arabia. Their country is backwards.

Come on Russia, but Uruguay and Egypt to top the group please.

    And Russia isn’t backwards?

But yes I hope and think it will be Uruguay and Egypt going threw with Uruguay having the potential to go very far indeed.

Worst opening game ever. Bet on Russia to win, free money.

Yeah I’d guess a Russia win even though they’re arguably the weakest team in the tournament outside of the Asian countries and Panama. Most of Saudi Arabia’s squad haven’t played this year as many were loaned to La Liga but didn’t get a game and their manager left to become Australia’s head coach.

I’ve actually got high hopes for this game. The Saudis scored a fair few in qualifying and Russias defence isn’t all that good with a 39 year old Ignashevich at the back

    Love the Russian national anthem.

The weakest game of the tournament first, great!

Found at the last WC (and the Euros) I much preferred watching the lesser nations and underdogs.

They at least tend to have a go and try and win. Not, that the bigger nations don’t but they are more willing to play patient possession football which can be quite ****ing boring to watch.

Can't believe the commentator thought there was a 'clear push' on the Saudi defender who actually just fell over!

Surprisingly entertaining. The Saudi's style is quite easy on the eye but their technical ability deserts them every now and then.

I think there are weaker games than this, Panama v Tunisia for example.

    “Push in the back.”

    Typical ITV bollocks.

The Saudis are typical of a team with little WC experience. Technically good on the ball, but make mistakes at the back and play the wrong pass in the final third.

These Saudis play some decent football, just lack the discipline needed.

Terrible pass but great skill and finish.
Very weird seeing a white Russian man doing a Muslim prayer as a celebration though...
