I reckon that's a bloke thing. If we go to a restaurant and the service and/or food is crap I just never go back again, whereas my wife would rather cause a scene then and there. As for reviews in general, I've left good and bad reviews about holiday hotels on trip advisor because people are going to spend thousands so why not give them my thoughts?

This review mania has got out of hand though, I recently received a request from Wickes to review my latest purchase, a toilet roll holder for the downstairs toilet:

I only seem to leave reviews when the food/service is a disgrace.

Like **** ***** in Salford. If you could all leave a poor review then I’d appreciate it. ty.

It’s funny when someone writes a bad review and the owners respond with a belting response.

There’s a nature trail in Melbourne that goes on for about 12kms and it has wonderful views and loads of wildlife. One reviewer gave it a poor score because she said, and I shit you not, “The trail at Warburton is very good for walking but very dark at night which is scary and you might see someone riding a horse or walking their dog”..

When I go on holiday, I always write a review whether good or bad, as I rely on reviews when choosing a hotel.

Sometimes I’ll leave one for restaurants. If something isn’t right with our meal, though, one of us will say at the time so we don’t pay for something we are not happy with / go hungry.

I don’t usually leave reviews but my missus does. A few months back I was delighted to find a piece of metal or something similar in my pizza when we was eating out. I got the whole meal free including a pudding.

I am a bit of a reviewer, if I get good service I like to call it out and likewise if service or product is poor. As someone said earlier, wife's tend to want to kick off there and then rather than leave a bad review which in most cases gets a response. We went for a meal in London and the service was a joke, left a 1 star review on trip advisor, got an email from one of the directors asking if she could call. We had a chat, discussed the many issues and she refunded me the full cost of the meal. thats not why I do it and thats the only time I've had that kind of reaction but just getting a response from someone senior is better than shouting at some poor sod on minimum wage. It can open up dialogue by email and can help these places improve in some cases as what the boss see's when they go in and what happens when they aren't are totally different things.

People that leave bad reviews of restaurants without trying to get the issue sorted there and then really need to get in the bin to be honest.

It’s people’s business and livelihoods, staff may have been very helpful and accommodating had you complained at the time which may lead to a better review but no, you run off and damage a reputation because of what could have been a one-off incident.

My experience they apologise and usually carry on with whatever they were doing that caused the issue. Restaurants have a right to reply on these sites and most do and it can open useful dialogue with a manager who can actually implement changes and improve their service. Some reviews are way OTT, just moaning for moaning sake but letting a business know your experience in their business can be beneficial.
