Just came across this and think it seems majorly OTT for our upcoming match away to Norwich, along with charging £40.

Does anyone else go through such stuff following their club to their local derbies?

The ID bit is certainly over the top.

Then again, it does make it easy for the Police as there is no way potential troublemakers with banning orders are getting to the game.

Imagine it'll be uniform across the country before long. We had the ID thing at your place earlier on in the season.

Not really. Has been minimal trouble at the games since I've been going to them in the early 2000s.

Especially when clubs and police at far nastier derbies are fine to go on Saturday nights when Sky come calling.

SYP have requested that our derby is only played in midweek in future. They can't police it anymore even though the away allocations have been cut from 5/6,000 to 2,400. There's almost as many police as away fans!

That's standard procedure for us at any away game, minus the photo I.D part. Fortunately the stewards can't be arsed cross-checking the number on tickets with membership/season cards a lot of the time.

It's the same for Palace/Brighton I believe for the away ends.

Ours with the Noses has been 12:00 Sunday since 2003.

They've cut away allocations to 2100 since as well.

I remember the days of 10k+ away ends and plenty more in home ends, both clubs could still easily handle 5k with plenty of segregation inbetween the rival fans.
The 2.2k allocations are bloody ridiculous imo.

Surely it just means more in pubs.

They did that to us for years but now Sky's power has prevailed and we've had two Friday night games and soon to be Monday night.

Won't be long until they try and stop away fans being at either ground IMO.

There was a fair bit of trouble before the last evening game, a lot of fans missed the first 20 minutes of the game.

Our matches v Burnley are generally mid day bubble matches. Away fans HAVE to travel via coach to the game, even if you are a Burnley fan living in Blackburn near Ewood as was a story once. They had to travel to Burnley and come to the game on the coach.

There are also steel barriers put up so we are segregrated.

There was a youth cup tie between the two clubs that ended up being behind closed doors once too.

As for allocation, it is restricted to allow for empty seats near the away end and away end near home fans.

We have that for every away game, and have for as long as I can remember (certainly since the 90's). They rarely check the ID vs ticket (seems to be once or twice a season this happens).

How did the police survive in the decades and decades before when most of the derbies were played on a Saturday at 3pm? There's absolutely no way that fans are worse behaved now than they were in the 70s and 80s. Pathetic police wanting an easy ride who are not prepared to do their jobs properly.

Pretty much identical to ours versus the Skates, bubble games, mid day on a sunday, only get your ticket on the coach and you have to present photo id to get the ticket, anyone found in either city without a ticket from either opposing side can be instantly arrested, massive steel fences erected (and at Fratton what they called a "sterile zone"), plus they closed a lane of the motorway so the coaches didn't have to slow down and cleared the motorway bridges from people so they couldn't drop things from them.

Edit to say: we're also no longer allowed to play "friendly" games against each other after Alan Knight's testimonial turned into a mini riot.

Sadly, like most police forces, now heavily understaffed probably.

So you and Portsmouth don't mind each other then?
