    I wonder why? :roflmao

TBH, I would rather have Jones available (injuries or not) than Fellaini.

I'm hoping with Jones and Rojo out, Lindelof and Smalling can continue to partner up at the back. Looked a bit more solid against Burnley the other week, could do with a continuous partnership in CBs, like "the good ol' days" (Ferdinand & Vidic)

well changing the defence nearly every week and expecting consistency clearly hasn't worked for him this season :D
They may not be the best defenders around, but given regular time together could produce something until the January window opens

Jose Mourinho could be without Luke Shaw, who sustained a head injury in England's UEFA Nations League match against Spain at the weekend. Some reports suggest the left-back will be obliged to serve a mandatory seven-day concussion period of absence, though this has not been confirmed.

Luke Shaw: Manchester United defender could face Watford a week after concussion

    By Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

    12 September 2018 | Man Und

Manchester United defender Luke Shaw could play in Saturday's Premier League game at Watford, a week after suffering concussion while playing for England.

Shaw was taken off on a stretcher at the start of the second half of England's Nations League defeat by Spain at Wembley.

Football Association guidelines state a player who suffers concussion should not play for 14 days.

But Shaw could play after being treated in United's "enhanced care setting."

The guidelines allow a player to return earlier if seven criteria are met, and United's state-of-the-art medical facilities are understood to meet the requirements.

It does not mean Shaw is certain to play at Vicarage Road as United's medical staff must be convinced of the full-back's recovery before making him available to manager Jose Mourinho.

I'd be surprised if he does - probably keep him for the young boys clash

MOURINHO'S INJURY UPDATE AHEAD OF WATFORD V UNITED

    by James Tuck
    Friday 14 September 2018 10:30
Jose Mourinho has provided some mixed news on the injury front ahead of Manchester United’s Premier League trip to Watford on Saturday.

Marcos Rojo will return to match action in the Under-23s’ home game against Reading tonight (Friday), alongside summer signing Diogo Dalot, as both players step up their recovery from injury.

Luke Shaw is available for the game against the Hornets after suffering concussion during England’s clash with Spain during the international break, but the manager will leave it late before deciding on the left-back’s involvement.

But Ander Herrera is doubtful with an ankle injury and there’s also a question mark over Marouane Fellaini, who picked up a minor back problem that ruled him out of Belgium’s two recent games. Marcus Rashford is suspended after being sent off in United’s win at Burnley last time out.

On Shaw, the boss told reporters at his press conference: “I don't know. We still have a training session. Contrary to some news and opinions, from the protocol point of view and according to our doctor, he will be free to play.

“Fellaini is a doubt. Ander Herrera is a doubt – he had one little problem in one ankle in training during the week, so he's a doubt.

“Diogo Dalot and Marcos Rojo will play tonight with the Under-23s and, if they play the 90 minutes like we expect, then it will be the end of their recovering process and we will consider them ready to be back next week for full competition.”

“The only situation I have to analyse is if we are going to play him when, during the week, he wasn't training with the team. Or even if he had been training, if we decide to play him.

Rashford, who scored twice for England during the international break, will miss United's next three domestic games after being dismissed at Turf Moor.

Mourinho added: “Speaking about Marcus, I think I can expect that on Sunday I'm going to be criticised for not playing Marcus, but it's not my fault.

”He is suspended, so probably we should remind people that he's suspended and cannot play. Performances with England, of course I am happy. He played well, he competed well and he scored, especially in a period where he comes with some sadness after his suspension, and it was very good that he did that.“

    Under-23s last night...

" The second half started brightly with United forcing two quick corners and then Chong exchanged passes with Gomes before hitting a shot that went inches wide.

The momentum was affected when Rojo came off with an apparent problem in the 54th minute and was replaced by Poole, although coach Sbragia later told MUTV he thought the first-team defender would be okay after spending time with the medical staff

SHAW TO START AGAINST YOUNG BOYS

    by Joe Ganley
    Sunday 16 September 2018 0:93

Jose Mourinho gave an early indication of his plans for Wednesday’s Champions League fixture against Young Boys of Bern following United’s win at Watford when quizzed about the team’s left-back position.

Ashley Young started the game at Vicarage Road on Saturday evening, after Luke Shaw suffered a concussion problem on international duty that subsequently kept him out of training for the majority of the last week.
The 33-year-old veteran acquitted himself superbly during the Reds' 2-1 victory, prompting suggestions from journalists in the post-match press conference that Young may continue on Wednesday.

But Mourinho’s response was emphatic, confirming just how highly he rates the start Shaw has made to the 2018/19 season.

“Shaw plays Wednesday,” said the Portuguese, before stressing just how important it was that United had a variety of options at full-back.

“We can’t do it with one left-back and Ashley Young is not just a left-back – he’s also a right-back,” said the boss...

    CONCERN FOR BORTHWICK-JACKSON
Cameron Borthwick-Jackson was taken off on a stretcher in a neck brace following eight minutes of treatment for a head injury while playing for his loan club Scunthorpe United against AFC Wimbledon on Saturday. The defender was involved in a collision as he went up for a header and, such was the concern for his condition, he was treated by medical staff from both teams. The 21-year-old was substituted on 31 minutes before Scunthorpe went on to win 3-2 to earn their first League One win under new boss Stuart McCall. We wish Cameron a speedy recovery and hope to see him back on the pitch soon.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has provided MUTV with an update on his plans for Tuesday's Champions League tie with Valencia.

The boss is set to be without four absentees for the match under the lights at Old Trafford, as the hosts look to build on the convincing 3-0 victory over Young Boys on matchday one.

Ashley Young picked up an injury during the weekend loss at West Ham United, while Marcos Rojo, Ander Herrera and Jesse Lingard are also on the sidelines.

    One player could return

In our exclusive interview with Jose Mourinho, which precedes the press conference at the Aon Training Complex, the boss gave an update on the condition of his squad for Saturday’s match.

When asked if any of the four players injured for the Valencia game could return, Jose said: “No, it’s exactly the same. No new injuries and the players who were injured [are still out] with the possibility of Ashley Young coming back to the squad but Ashley was really a minor situation.”

SHAW WITHDRAWS FROM THE ENGLAND SQUAD

    by Mark Froggatt
    Monday 8 October 2018 20:00

Luke Shaw has withdrawn from the England squad and is returning to Manchester United, meaning the in-form defender will miss the two UEFA Nations League matches against Croatia and Spain.

The 23-year-old’s exit from the Three Lions' camp was announced by The FA on Monday evening, and he will now return to the Aon Training Complex for treatment.

It remains to be seen if Shaw will be available for the Reds’ anticipated return to action on Saturday 20 October, against Jose Mourinho’s former club Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League.
