SOLSKJAER REVEALS WHY MARTIAL IS NOT IN SQUAD

Manchester United caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed Anthony Martial is ill and that is the reason why he is not in the squad to face Huddersfield Town at Old Trafford.

Martial played a pivotal role in the 5-1 thrashing of Cardiff City in South Wales last Saturday, but Solskjaer has explained that the flying Frenchman picked up an illness over Christmas, which has ruled him out of Boxing Day's Old Trafford clash. The good news, however, is the boss has suggested Martial could return for the visit of Bournemouth on Sunday.

He told MUTV and Sky Sports: “He must have had a bad chef over Christmas - he has fallen ill. If it is food poisoning or if it is something else, I don’t know.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has told the media that he hopes to have Alexis Sanchez available for Manchester United's Premier League fixture against Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday.

“Alexis has trained all week, so hopefully he comes through the session today and will be available,” explained the Norwegian.
United's caretaker manager then went on to provide injury updates on three other sidelined players in Chris Smalling, Marcos Rojo and Marouane Fellaini.

“Chris and Marcos just started running lightly so they're not fit yet. Felli is the long-term one who is out. He'll be out for a few weeks.

”That's sad because there are X-factors in different players and we all know Felli's X Factor, but then again he'll be working hard to get back for when all the big games are coming as well.“

However, away from this trio, the boss indicated that the rest of the squad is in good health.

How does fellaini seem to always be injured when a transfer window rolls around?

Time to promote Greenwood up to the first XI imo with Martial and Lingard also injured.

Think we need to hold off on playing lukaku as a lone striker for a bit. He has looked better recently when he drifts out wide and it may ease pressure off him while he works on confidence.

Time to bring in Greenwood, chong, and gomes. They're ready to play a role; maybe not a starting role, but a role.

Lukaku certainly looks better on the right. Maybe try Sanchez up front, and hope he can fluke a goal to gain confidence.

Those two will be a big loss for us. Fingers crossed we get one back for Liverpool.

Sanchez is injured bro. This would be my team:

    DDG
    Dalot Lindelof Bailly Shaw
    Matic
    Herrera Pogba
    Mata
    Lukaku Rashford
With the front 2 occupying the space between cb and fullback.

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is hopeful Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial will be fit for Sunday's game against Liverpool.

Lingard, 26, injured his hamstring in the Champions League defeat by Paris St-Germain 10 days ago and was expected to be out for up to three weeks.

France forward Martial, 23, could also return from the groin injury he picked up in the first half against PSG.

"Jesse is looking OK. I hope with Anthony," said Solskjaer.

"Anthony's was a different muscle, so we think he might be ready and hope that Jesse will.

"We've got two more days so they've got to get through these two sessions. They've not been part of training yet but they've been doing some recovery work."
