Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay sustained suspected knee ligament damage in the win over Newcastle United, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says.

McTominay, 23, suffered the injury after making a block tackle on Matty Longstaff early on in the 4-1 victory.

The Scotland international was replaced by Paul Pogba at half time.

"He's done his knee ligaments probably," said Solskjaer. "I don't know how bad."

McTominay left Old Trafford on crutches and is now a doubt for Saturday's trip to Burnley.

"The boy has got the biggest heart and we've seen him heal quickly before but I am not sure if he is going to be ready for Saturday," Solskjaer added.

FFS, we get no luck. I'd rather lose Pogba. McTominay is no Roy Keane, but IMO he's our best and most consistent midfielder, maybe even player this season. I just hope it's not a long one.

Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay could be out for up to a month with a knee injury.

The 23-year-old was hurt in the 4-1 win against Newcastle and left the Boxing Day game at Old Trafford on crutches.

McTominay did not play in the 2-0 victory at Burnley on Saturday.

"I don't know if it's three or four weeks. It might be something like this. We've just got to find a way through it," said United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Midfielder Paul Pogba was also absent from the Manchester United squad for the trip to Turf Moor.

The France international recently returned from an ankle injury that had sidelined him since September and played 45 minutes against Newcastle.

"He's been out for a long while and he didn't feel right, he reacted to that one," added Solskjaer.

"We'll just have to take our time and get him ready for next time."

I'd been saying for a while he's the only one who's never had a rest, playing more than anyone else this season. Watching the abysmal Lindelof last night I can understand the manager always picking Maguire, but even the most important squad members need the odd week off.

Annoyingly, we're not signing anyone in this window, because they'll use the excuse that we spent so much money in the summer (even though we made a lot of it back).

their new excuse is "no value in the market" or "we won't overpay"
